Herb garden from seeds? Indoors or outdoors?

If you have an herb garden, did you start from seeds or did you buy plants at the nursery?

Which one were successful?

I am looking for info on

Rosemary
Basil
Thyme (this one I think is hard)

both ways are fine but if you want to use them fairly quickly i would start indoors this way by the time its ready to go outside you have fairly large plants and can start harvesting.

I have done basil and rosemary. I never grew them from seeds. I bought the plant and put it in a large pot so it has growing room and those 2 plants thrived.

I did it around mothers day and late spring & all summer into the fall I had basil and rosemary

I have never done thyme before

I put them in pots and start inside, when it's really warm I take them outside, and then in the fall bring them back in so I have them all winter.
