Here' hoping...........................
If you're in Town of Brookhaven make sure you flip it over and vote on proposition 1 too. The proposition would impose 12 year term limits but it would also extend terms from 2 years to 4 years. No thanks on that for me.

Re: Here' hoping...........................
Yes, let’s hope. I sent my ballot in 2 weeks ago. Something needs to be done. And it’s my bday on Tuesday. I’ve had my bday ruined by a few elections.
This article scares me:

VOTING BLUE STRAIGHT DOWN THE LINE!
So just vote down one party line regardless of the who it is? I vote based on issues more than I do along party lines. I potentially may vote Dem and Repub in the same election. It is never about having one side or another for me. Wish more people thought this way. #1 reason I wish we weren't just a 2 party system.

I can't get my hopes, because I'm still hurting from the shock of the last election. I'm still hopeful, but I'm also mentally preparing for the worst.

Normally I do too BUT after this sh!t show the last two years, HELL YEA I'm voting all blue. Every single Republican has proven themselves to be spineless, complicit, and useless. NOT one of them is doing the job they were voted in to do. NOT one of them is enforcing our system of checks and balances and reigning in the madman of a POTUS. NOT one of them is acting in OUR best interest. They are ALL party before country and I am sick of it. I want them ALL out. Time to take our democracy back.

Re: Here is hoping...........................
Hello, 1st I read this board a lot and respect everyone's views and usually don't like to comment. Always scared of politics..haha!But wanted to share my feelings this year. This year I Will be voting for Larry Sharpe for governor. I am a democrat and honestly I am tired of the red and Blue. I have voted for both parties in the past and try to pick the one I agree with most. But I have to say I am Tired of them not working together. I'm tired of the corruption and the biased news. Neither represent me anymore. I just cant get behind either of them. Many of my family members both republican and democrat are also voting for Larry. Is he perfect, no, do I agree with every single thing, no. But I will say I have never seen anyone campaign as hard as he has. He has actually visited all 62 counties of NY. All grassroot campaigning. He wants you to tell him he is wrong and he is willing to listen to your ideas as well, so he can help fix it. This is the 1st time ever I vote gold and 3rd party. Yes people say oh your wasting your vote..but If anything at least it shows they need to work harder to gain our votes. Last night the League of Women's Voters, find them on Facebook, held an online debate for ALL the candidates. The media did not want to cover it. Such a shame! We the voters have a right to hear from everyone running!! Everyone attended except Cuomo!! I had in fact tried sharing it with the media to spread the word and every time I tried to share it on News 12. They deleted my link to the debate. They did not want people viewing it. Why?? I feel every candidate should have a chance to debate, even if you think they can't win. I want to hear all their plans, and how they can fix NY, especially being so undecided. This election year the media has failed all of us by not listening to us and only making it Red and Blue. I want to vote on the individual not by the party. Sorry for the long post just wanted to share my feelings. Happy Friday!!

Not all Republicans are Trump supporters. Cuomo is also a tyrant, and won't be getting my vote.
Something important to note: We hold 17% of all students in the state in our public school systems, yet we ONLY receive 9% of State funding for per-pupil spending. So much $ goes into "Leveling Up" districts with low property values. Since our property values are so high, we disproportionately pay much more in school taxes, much of which goes upstate. While we all want districts to succeed in all areas, we can't keep shelling out just because Albany thinks we're "rich". Democrats fully support leveling up, while Republicans fight to keep state funding proportionate to population. I'm not a republican, and I don't always vote along party lines, this time, for state assembly, I have no choice. If this proposal goes through, we are fukked. You think our taxes are high now?
Something to think about.

I understand. It all comes down to priorities and what’s important to the voter. People (civil rights, women’s rights, healthcare, education, LGBTQ rights) are more important to me than money/taxes. Thats the main difference between parties IMO. But the republicans seem to have gotten more extreme as far as those “rights” go. Maybe because they are majority in all 3 branches.
I have to say (as a trump hater) that if someone doesnt oppose him they appear as supporting him. I have never felt that way before with other presidents. I dont think you can be neutral this time. Its like people who say they aren’t trying to get pregnant but they aren’t preventing it either. If youre not preventing then youre trying!
Someone made a comment to me they only vote for the person that lowers taxes. Thats all he cares about. He didnt care that trump just said at a rally that the pipe bombs and other terrorist attack at synogue held up the momentum of campaigning!

I think that this is a big part of what people around here are missing though. For many of Americans the priority is money and it's not always necessarily because you want a new car or a giant TV, it's because you legit worry about putting food in your kids mouths and clothes on their backs, keeping the house warm all winter and gas in your car so you can get to work, and keeping your healthcare current in case someone gets sick. We are very lucky that we are actually able to make human rights our priority and don't have to sacrifice the well being of ourselves and our families to do so.
And just because someone opposes something like leveling up does not equate to not caring about humanity. You can actually care about both. Just because I want my taxes to be "fair" does not mean I don't care about women's issues, the LGBTQ community, equal rights, etc.

I went to one of those upstate schools which received funding from the state because most of our community is impoverished.
Let me assure you that your high property taxes aren't just because you receive less state funding, but because your schools spend a lot more money on programs and facilities that we could only dream about because we're too busy getting state funding to feed the children who attend our schools and get them books to read so they actually learn to read unlike many of their parents who dropped out of school before graduating to help support their families.
The state doesn't think Long Islanders are rich, they know they're rich. You may not feel rich, because it costs a lot of live here, but in comparison to what a lot of those upstate students have, your kids are rolling in it.
It drives me nuts that everyone complains about school taxes, but they want the STEM building for their school, they want new football helmets to protect their kids, they want orchestra in their elementary school, they want armed guards and new security systems installed, they want every opportunity for the kids, and who wouldn't, but then they wonder why taxes are so damn high. Seriously, go upstate or out of state and take a look at some of the schools in the low tax areas and you'll see why their taxes are lower.

Ahhh, I haven't posted much and I am sure some of these girls on here are happy for that. But believe it or not, I am voting for Larry too. Molinaro doesn't really stand a chance and I personally know in my heart Cuomo is probably winning anyway, Larry has a shot over Molinaro. I don't LOVE every single thing he believes in but the majority of his views are aligned with mine. I am also FED up with Cuomo and the way everything is handled with the school budget. Instead of blindly hitting that button straight across, voting on issues is important. Believe it or not, I have voted for certain democrats. Only twice but I have. But one thing is for sure, Cuomo sure as hell isn't getting my vote.

I would vote for my cat over Cuomo. I would write in Scooby Doo over voting for him. I don't care WHAT party he was running under...

This year for Senate I will vote Democrat just in the hopes we can flip the balance with a trump still in office. I typically have voted party lines previously but this year I will vote Republican for local officials in my town because of some ordinances put into place by the Democrats that have cost me 10k plus just to sell my house.

I totally get it. Please believe me, I used to work in schools in Greece(NY) and up near Utica for special programs. Also, my family lives in the Elmira/Horseheads area, so I get it.
Remember, that these funding figures are only determined by PROPERTY value, not income. I completely understand that we should never ever begrudge anyone of a fair and equal education. But there has to be a better way to do it. I am a teacher, and I firmly believe that you get what you pay for. In the heyday before the caps, We never voted down a school budget because of a tax inscrease ever nor will I ever in the future. I just ask that we pay only our fair share. Money doesn't always improve a district because they get pretty things.
