Hi-Risk Dr...

i looked up on line that i have a greater chance of an ectopic in the future (like 20%).... should I start seeing a hi-risk Dr now...

my doctor told me that it's a 15% chance and she said that what i need to really hear when she says that is that i have an 85% chance of NOT having another ectopic. she said there is no need to proceed any differently. she said in all of her years practicing and all of the ectopic surgeries she's done, she has only ever seen one patient have a reoccurring ectopic (who she added has triplets now). my dr is very optimistic about my chances of conceiving a healthy pregnancy and i only have one tube (and i'm 34 years old!)

in my opinion, i wouldn't worry about it just yet. i would give yourself time to grieve and heal. if you'd feel better seeing a high risk doctor when all of this is over, then you could. but honestly, from what i've read in the past few days, you need a new obgyn altogether.

that is actually a good way to look at it... i suppose mine would be less than 20% because i still have both tubes...

Re: Hi-Risk Dr...

Not to scare you, but I will share my story. I had an ectopic in February. I had surgery and lost my left tube. I just finished a FET cycle and last Wed got a BFP. I was terrified that it was another ectopic. Friday, my beta went down. Thought it was a chemical. Just had a repeat beta on Wed and it went back up again. I am pretty sure my dr suspects another ectopic (in my other tube). Luckily, I am being closely monitored by my RE and we are catching it early.

Like I said, I don't want to scare you, but for me it's something I will always worry about. Give yourself some time to see how you feel moving forward. Everyone handles things differently. I'm sure my case is far from the norm, but I just wanted to share another perspective.

i'm so sorry to hear this and hope its not the case for you Chat Icon Chat Icon i don't want to hijack this thread but this is my worst fear in the world. were you seeing an RE before you had the first ectopic or did you start seeing one as a result?

Thank you. I was seeing an RE when I had my first. We knew my left tube was in bad shape so even though we caught that one early, I still lost the tube. If your dr monitors you closely and you catch them early, chances are that you can save the tube. You are worried about having a second ectopic?

yeah, totally worried. i guess that's normal to worry about. even now i second guess every single pain i feel b/c it's always in the back of my mind. we've been contemplating seeing an RE just so i'm monitored more closely and i think we're going to do it. thanks for sharing your story...i really hope it all works out for you Chat Icon

and to Ang: i hope you are as ok as you can be. if you need to talk, we are all here for you Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Hi-Risk Dr...

I have said in an earlier post that you should definitely change Dr right away. If you feel more comfortable seeing a High Risk Dr. then go for it. it certainly doesnt hurt. Whatever will make you feel more secure in your next pregnancy. Good Luck to you!Chat Icon Chat Icon
