Re: high school reunions
We didn't have one technically. Someone set up an impromptu get together at a bar the day before Christmas Eve but maybe like 20 people showed. It was nice but nothing formal and honestly I was disappointed.
There was a rumor that the "popular" kids from HS had their own reunion over the summer.

Re: high school reunions
I did not go to my 10 year reunion and will most likely not go to my 20 year reunion. I have no desire to spend an evening hanging out with people I have lost touch with or have out grown...I have a few people I have kept in touch with...I have limited free time and I do not see the point in "catching up" with people I lost touch with if we really cared we would still be friends.

Nope I have no desire to see anyone again. I kept in touch with the important ones and the others are a click away on FB.

for those NOT going to theirs.. what is the reason??
I have one coming up and I'm not going.
I speak to a handful of good friends I had since I was a kid from school, and we still see each other often and are aunts to each other's kids. More like sisters.
I guess I have no desire to make small talk.
My friends won't be going either, as they feel the same way.
you know.. my school had its typical "cliques" but for the most part... we all got along.. of course there were a few douchebags and bagettes... but a lot of the clique "faded" into each other and we all had some mutual respect for each other.
I guess I'm lucky in that way... And NOOOOOO I was NOT part of the "popular" crew. I had my fair share of insecurities and heartbreak... but I have to say-- we all KNEW each other... and people were friends with others who were TOTALLY different...
Also a lot of people are still very good friends (not me.. I left LI for the city right after college.) but they are still a big part of each other's lives ... which I envy a little...
That sounds unique, by typical high school standards but definately positive.
I think I'd have less of an adverse reaction if a group wasn't set up on Facebook and I'm seeing people comment stuff and already picking on certain people, or the same characters who haven't changed.
One guy who was a pompous but nerdy fellow wrote he would like to attend but is in the middle of a lot of important trials (guess he's a lawyer?) and wont be able to attend if it lands on a trial date. Clearly he could have waited until a date was set (hasn't yet) but I guess he felt the need to state this.
Another meanie jumped on what he said already, and some girls who were very unpopular posted a few venue suggestions, which were met with dismay and mockery by the former popular girls.
Seeing this all play out already on this Facebook page has made me remember why I didn't like my high school and further solidified why I wouldn't feel comfortable attending.
I'm blessed to have my good friends that I've kept still be in my life.
Just sad it couldn't be different but I'm glad other people have positive experiences with their reunions.

I also want to write on the page that I'd rather get a colonoscopy than see the majority of my class, based just on what I have read so far.

I went to my 5 year and 10 year. By my 20th year reunion, I didn't talk to many of my classmates, although we all reconnected through FB. I didn't go to my 20th and I don't regret it!

do you remember the movie "dazed and confused?" you know how "pink" a popular "jock" was friendly with BOTH the stoner group (Milla Jovovich and crew) AND the nerdy crew that he played cards with? The chick with the red afro... It was kind of like that in my school...
we had the upper echelon of kick liners and jocks... but for the most part our "middle class" was wide spread... You had a few people from each group that were NICER than the others... but honestly, I never felt out of place at my school. Sure I had my insecurities and I saw people being bullied.. but the *bullying* never became a big problem b/c the "victims" also had a strong group... its weird.

A 99.9% white upper-middle class school district that everyone adores.
I wish I went to your high school. I would have fared much better, me thinks.

this is just based on MY experience... I'm sure there were people in my school who thought very differently, KWIM?
ours was approx. 90% white- middle class.
Valley Stream Central... now it's very mixed.

No way would I go! I find out all of the scoop I need on Facebook, lol! I graduated with over 700 others so I probably wouldnt know who most are. All of my good friends now are from my HS days and none of us were ever interested in going.

Re: high school reunions
I didn't go to my 10 year and kind of regretted it after I heard about all the people who showed up. You never would've known it from the responses to the evite. It was basically a happy hour in a bar in the city, so people just decided at the last minute to go. At the time, I still saw and hung out with a lot of people and felt like I see them all the time anyway, why bother and then they gave me crap for not showing up later
My 20 year is coming up and being that I don't see anyone really, I'm debating going. With fb, it feels like I can see and talk to whomever whenever I feel like. And based on the response, it seems my friends aren't going, but I don't want to find out after the fact that they all just showed up without responding again kwim
Like you Heath, my class definitely had it's cliques but they all pretty much got along. I think we had a pretty unique experience as a grade in that we lost a member of our class every.single.year. of hs (actually into college as well). We felt we were cursed, but it certainly brought us together as only death can.

I went to my ten year. It was fun because i got really drunk. The people who were dicks back then still were at the reunion but whatever.
I got drunk too! A few years prior, I had reconnected with one of my HS friends who randomly ended up in MD like me (went to school in MA). So me and DH hung out with her and her twin sister who I was also friends with. It made it a lot less awkward, and we just got drunk and had a good time.

Re: high school reunions
I had friends in HS, I was considered part of the average crowd, not the popular clique, but we all got along in HS , but I did not attend my HS reunion. It was just not my thing- and the people I want to stay in touch with I do, and why would I spend the $$ to see the people I still keep in touch with and see on a regular basis.I also have moved on, KWIM? I see them on FB that is enough for me. I do not regret my decision. Hope this helps.

Re: high school reunions
We never had one until 2010 our 30 year reunion.(yes I am old) Didnt go because I was getting married 2 weeks later. This year they are having another reunion- they are calling it the "The class of 1980 turns the BIG 5-0" Its a weekend at Virginia Beach. Cant do that either because I am going to Europe a few weeks later and cant pull off both.
I went to DH's 25th reunion a few years back and had a great time.

I went to my 10 year and had a blast. Did not go to my 20th. I was away on a cruise for my dh's 40th birthday and did not regret that.
I think with all these networking sites, you really don't even need a reunion any more.

Re: high school reunions
My 20th reunion came and went...I did not attend.
I LOVED high school...LOVED IT!!
BUT...I dated a nut (for 3 years) that went to my school from sophomore year through senior.
After we broke up (I left him for my DH 20 years ago ), he stalked me for years...threats and all.
I'd be afraid (literally) to see him at a reunion, so I'd NEVER go to one.
I have reconnected with many old friends through FB and we get together on our own.
