High Thyroid levels (a little long)
Is anyone on Synthroid? My RE put me on Synthroid and I was doing really well. I lost some weight and my levels went down. I got some blood tests back today and my levels went up so my dosage was raised. I did some research and found that high TSH levels can cause a m/c. I am only 51/2 weeks and very worried.

Re: High Thyroid levels (a little long)
I'm on synthroid. I was put on it when I got pregnant - my TSH levels were borderline but I was put on 100 mcg anyway (pretty high for a starting point). Each time they test, my levels have been fine so I have not needed a dosage adjustment. Unfortunately, I don't know anything about miscarriages and synthroid - I remember reading that low levels of thyroid hormones (as opposed to TSH, which is what makes your thyroid work) could cause them too so either extreme is not good for the baby. I'm sure they're adjusting your dosage so I wouldn't worry about it now.
I just re-read your post - high levels of TSH - thyroid stimulating hormone just means your thyroid is working harder to produce the right level of whatever it is your thyroid produces - but if that number was fine, I wouldn't worry. Doctors look at 2 numbers when they evaluate your levels - TSH is only one of them. In the end, the other number is probably the most important number - what the thyroid produces as opposed to TSH, which activates the thyroid to work. Does that make sense? If your other level is fine, I really wouldn't worry. They're adjusting your dose so I'm sure everything's fine.

Re: High Thyroid levels (a little long)
I've been on synthroid for over 5 years. My levels went up after I got pg and my dose has been adjusted a few times. Went to the endo today actually and my levels are perfect now. I think there is only a risk of miscarriage in untreated thyroid issues. As long as you are being monitored you should be fine.

Re: High Thyroid levels (a little long)
I was on synthroid when I was younger and I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (I am not too familiar but I know one number was low and one was high) and I am on thyroxine now.
I would call the RE if you are concerned, but if they are proactively treating it by raising your dose, they negate the chance of a miscarriage.
Sorry to sound ignorant-but is your condition hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism?
If it is hypothyroidism, my endo said as long as you are treated, you will be fine-you just need to be monitored. The worst they said in reality was a chance that DC could be a few points lower on the IQ scale if untreated.

Re: High Thyroid levels (a little long)
Thanks ladies. The study that I read said that m/c is possible so that just freaked me out. My RE has also raised my dosage twice in a month. I went from 75 to 88 and am moving to 100.

Re: High Thyroid levels (a little long)
I am on synthroid and it is very common when pregnant for your dosage to be increased. I went from 125 to 175 in my first pregnancy. With this pregnancy I started at 175 so I am sure it will go up.
As long as you take your medications there should be no complications
