Hip Dysplasia
Anyone deal with this? My DD was breech for so long and now has hip dysplasia. Her hips dislocate when moved and is now in this ugly very uncomfy looking brace for 6-8 weeks. She has to wear it 20 hours out of the day and can't not have it off more then 4hrs. Diaper changes are tuff now with this brace and she can only wear oneies no pants. I was told its 95% effective. I've been a mess since Monday about this and I'm so worried it won't work! I'm just looking for some hugs and prays and see if anyone has a story to share.
Thank you

Re: Hip Dysplasia
My sister had this when she was a baby. The ped picked up on it, and she went into traction at the hospital and wore the brace on her legs for some time. I can't remember specifics as I was only 6, but she is now 21 and has no complications at all!
I know that if you catch it early, the better the chances are.
If you have any questions, let me know, and I can ask my mom.

Re: Hip Dysplasia
My DS was breech also and the dr. recommended a sonogram to check for hip dysplasia. He did not have it so I don't have any experience, but she told me the same thing as your dr.
As long as they catch it early, and she wears her brace, she will be fine!
It's wonderful that they are able to catch it so early these days, whereas before, it would require major surgery.
Hope everything goes well!!

Re: Hip Dysplasia
Thanks for the replys!!
They said because she is only a week old that her chances are good cause she's a week old. It is amazing how earlier they catch this stuff. I'm praying hard it works for my little girl!

Re: Hip Dysplasia
My neice had a pretty bad case when she was born and she wore the brace 24/7 for 6 months. She's now almost 2 years old, and completely normal (well, except that she's exactly like my sister ). It looks totally uncomfortable...but they get used to it, and once it's gone, they're good to go!

Me too. My mom said the worst part really was that she couldn't put me in some cute outfits like she wanted.
