Hip Dysplasia
I am not a frequent poster at all, but have a question could really use some help from whoever has experience with this.
I am a new mom of a 1 week old DD. She was diagnosed with Hip Dysplasia at birth. She was seen by a pediatric orthopedics in the hospital, and was suggested to wear 3 layers of diapers to hold her hips. She will have a re-evaluation in 3 weeks. The ped orth was talking about the possibility of a harness for her.
I have googled harness for infant, and it just looks scary. I don’t know how DD is going to function with the harness on. Am I going to be able to hold her? Am I going to be able to continue breast feeding with her?
If any of you have experience with this, could you please share yours with me? I’d really appreciate any advice!
THANK YOU!!!

Re: Hip Dysplasia
DD was tested for this by ultra sound at 6 weeks but did not end up having it.

Re: Hip Dysplasia
My niece had hip dysplasia and wore a harness for several weeks. It really was not scary at all! Her legs were basically just lifted to the point where she looked like a little froggie. She wasn't BF, but holding her wasn't an issue at all. Her hips went back into place and she hasn't had any problems with it since (she's 7 now). If you have any questions, I'd be happy to ask my SIL about it for you!

Re: Hip Dysplasia
DD is currently wearing her harness and has been in it since beginning of November. At first I felt HORRIBLE for her! I figured she must be so uncomfortable and frustrated. But she has been in it for 3 months now and she is perfectly fine. In fact between her and her twin brother she's the happier baby! It is a bit of a pain when it comes to changing diapers. DH can change her with it in tact but I have to take her legs out.
I know EXACTLY where you're coming from - I believe I posted the same thing as you did when she first got it on. But they honestly are not phased by it at all. I think it's worse on us then it is them!
Feel free to FM if you have any other questions about it!
