Holiday gift question

DD will be 9 months at Christmas. I know that my entire family is going to spoil her rotten, especially since it's her first Christmas. I haven't even thought about what I am getting her, but I'm thinking that I don't really need to get much since she's going to be getting SO much from relatives. Does that make me a bad mommy?!? Chat Icon Does anyone have any special gift ideas that mommy and daddy could get her?

Re: Holiday gift question

my first son was two months at christmas and my newborn will be 5 months. I didn't think of christmas gifts for my first and really haven't thought of anything for my second. Don't feel bad, you're not a bad mommy Chat Icon

I'm sure you're DD will get a lot of stuff too. How about getting her a personalized stocking stuffer and fill it up with stuff like books and dvds...I know this one women I work with gives her daughter an ornament every year for christmas. Her mother did that for her kind of a tradition and I thought that was really cute. So far this little girls has almost every disney character related ornament. Maybe you can start something like that with your DD?

I don't think its stupid, they're probably going to get so much, they wouldn't know the difference...

maybe you can get DC like a nice outfit or something nice for their room...

Re: Holiday gift question

Nope, not a bad mommy! Chat Icon Both of my kids are October babies and their first and second christmases were pretty small as far as what we bought them. A baby can just have so many stuffed animals that sing, or onsies, etc.

Plus we knew that family would spoil them, so we didn't go crazy by any means. Maybe a few little things.

Buy something memorable like an ornament or put some cash in a savings account.

Re: Holiday gift question

i feel the same way... i feel like she is only going to be 6 months old and will be spoiled rotten by everyone, so i doubt i am getting anything. i am going to get her though a first christmas ornament, her stocking and her dress for Christmas Day, but that's probably about it. Grandma and everyone else will spoil her and honestly, she needs nothing and i hate having so much excess in my house! Chat Icon

Re: Holiday gift question

We were in the same situation last year with DS. We got him a book and a few small things, and then a car.... I think it is Chicco and it has different stages so it's good from about 9 mo to a year - maybe 2 or 3 years.....

You're not a bad mommy!!!! we are planning on doing the same thing this year....

Re: Holiday gift question

DH and I were just talking about this. DD will only be 4.5 months but I think we decided to get her her first cabbage patch kid doll... I had one as a kid and it's my most memorable doll! And maybe some books and disney movies to start a collection.

Re: Holiday gift question

DD was exactly 3 weeks old her first Christmas. DH & I didn't get her a thing. Last year, she was a year and 3 weeks old we got her two "big" gifts and one thing for her stocking. This year, mommy has been buying things left and right whenever she is out and sees a sale on something DD will like.

dh and i had the same issue last year... we opted to actually each get smaller things like books and blocks and thngs that we could open on a slower pace.. with one or two larger items....

For my son's first christmas, we got him an ornament. We also got him some books like How The Grinch Stole Christmas and wrote a message in it.

Re: Holiday gift question

Great ideas! I LOVE the ornament idea, and perhaps I can think of something that I can do every Christmas as something special from Mommy and Daddy Chat Icon

Trust me, I would LOVE to spoil her with toys and clothing, but I KNOW she's going to get so much, and I hate having TOO much that some of it goes to waste!

Thanks for the great ideas!
