I called and if you have a brookhaven sticker it's free, if not it's $5 for residents and $20 for non-residents. if non-residents want a Brookhaven pass, it's $350 for 2 years which is insane being the islip pass for non-residents is $50

That is ridiculous?? I paid $20 for a town park sticker and that is for 2 cars for 2 years....are you sure??

or am I thinking of a different one? We got ours at Cedar beach.

$350 is for non residents...it is $20 or $25 for 2 years for residents

All other towns charge non residents to park at their beaches and parks. Glad Brookhaven is doing this. They were considering closing the center. So happy its not closing!!

Again most non residents have no issue paying. It's the amount that's crazy.

And for the record, I was out there fighting, writing letters and signing petitions to try to keep this place open and I know other non-residents have done as well.

Same pass. I think you are reading it wrong. $350 is for non residents.

Exactly. I live in Nassau County and Eisenhower Park charges for non-residents, but I think it's only $10 and there is a ton to do there. My Town Beaches and Jones Beach don't even charge that much for parking. I think the bulk of the revenue they will get will be from their own Town residents.

I signed a petition as well... Yay for it staying open but now I'm going to have to pay $20 as a non res... Absurd

Chat Icon Exactly. I was also out there fighting to keep them open. I knew they would charge a fee eventually. I don't think anyone here has an issue with that. I would have no issue paying a small fee but 20 is just crazy.

I think it's also just a sign of the times. Free ain't so free anymore, it has to come from somewhere. It's a shame, but I'd rather it charge than close its doors.

I don't know, for me this is basically like it's closing. I can't and won't pay $20 to go there. So I guess I can't go anymore. Ah well...

Is this fee is only seasonal like the beach? A Memorial Day to Labor Day kind of thing?

When do the fees officially begin?

.
I think what they don't realize is that if they charge a reasonable rate they would make more money. I doubt anyone would pay $20. There is not enough.there to justify.that. but if they charged 5 or 10 bucks more people would pay it. So more revenue.

Re: Holtsville Ecology Center charging??

ahh it stinks that they are charging--it was nice to have something free to do!
I think $5-10 would be fine, 20 is a lil steep for what you get...$8 bucks more and you can take your kid to white post where there is more to do/see.
