Re: Home Alone - poll

I have a JRT almost 3 and a Border Collie almost 6. They have free reign of the house except for my bedroom because I don't want them on the bed. The JRT was crated untill about 8 months ago. He had a tendency to be destructive but seems to have outgrown that. The border collie has always had free run. I like the fact that she can go anywhere in the house if someone is trying to get in.
My lil one trashed out apartment when we let her out when she was about 8 months old (over a year ago). I think she grew out of that stage, she better have !!!!

Re: Home Alone - poll
Our dog, sable, a pug used to be limited to a bedroom. Then we gave her free reign but taught him never to come up the stairs into the bedrooms. He was so good about this until dd was born. After a few weeks he acted out and would go in her room while we weren't home and pee on her toys that were on the floor. Now we gate off the stairs and that seemed to solve that problem.

Re: Home Alone - poll
we live in an apartment in the city, so we close the bedroom and bathroom doors and gate off the kitchen, so Joey has the living room to himself.

Re: Home Alone - poll
I have a very lazy dog, so I leave him out all day and he sleeps ALL day...and I mean ALL day.
Here's what he does pretty much all day

Re: Home Alone - poll
my baby now has free reign of the house, he got over every barricade we made, so we gave up. He was crated at first, until about 6 months, then we slowly tried him on his own in the house, 1-2 hours at a time. Now it's all day and he does just perfect. He is 90lbs.!

Re: Home Alone - poll
The rottweiler (small for her breed) was crated for 2 1/2 years when we left the house. Now she has free reign.
The pug/beagle mix is still crated....I'm too scared he'll have an accident or destroy something.

Re: Home Alone - poll
Lulu (Daschund) is now 4 months old and we are still in the process of housebreaking her. When we are not home, she's in the crate due to safety reasons and also because she's not fully trained. She only stays in the crate though for about 4 hours a day and at night when she's sleeping. When we are home, she's all over the house except our bedroom.

Re: Home Alone - poll
My dog is 60lb English Pointer. We started him out when he was a puppy in his crate, then slowly gave him more space. At about a year he was able to have free reign of the house.
