home inspections
How did you find someone to do your inspection? Also, how much should I expect to pay?

price depends on the size of the home. mine went based on the bedrooms.
We knew this person through a friend. he worked with him, and then inspected a few houses friends were buying. we have used him on 2 houses, and he was excellent!!! he walked the roof in the pouring blowing rain, which they never do!! if its raining at all they don't usually go up on the roof. But it was our major concern with the house, and thankfully it was good.

We used Home Sweet Home Inspections ou of Ridge, NY.

This is the company we used and I HIGHLY recommend them. We had 4 house inspections...the last one was the house we bought. The first 3 houses had a lot of problems that we covered up but they found them. They were so professional and personable. The guy who came and did the inspection treated me like family, gave me clear advice, told me to call him with any questions. We are so grateful to them.

Home team... all the way. $475.00 (a few months ago) for inspection report and termite report.

We Used Inspector Gadget
He was great and had all the tools he gave us a detailed report a few hours later. It was $450.
Unfortunatley we didn't get the house but I would hire him again when we are house hunting again!

WIN Home Inspection  Love them!
FYI - they are individually owned/operated, though some have multiple locations. The largest (and I think, the best) is the one first mentioned above: Bob (owner), Steve, Sean - they're all excellent! As the other poster mentioned they go above and beyond!!
Prices range based on # of bedrooms and square footage, but they are very reasonable and the reports are exceptionally thorough.
They include the termite inspection/report, which you MUST have to get a mortgage in NY.
(p.s. this is just one of their links - it doesn't matter where the house is that you are purchasing...)

We just had one done yesterday and went with the person our RE agent recommended. He was GREAT! I highly recommend him.
