Homemade pizza
I swear, I think this is one food endeavor that I will NEVER accomplish.
Who wants to help me?
I've tried fresh dough, made my own dough, used refrigerated pizza dough.
anyone have a good recipe for dough or use a particular brand?
Also, what do YOU do?

Re: Homemade pizza
Buy the dough from the pizza store. Then put olive oil on one side and place the side down on the BBQ. Then flip it and put toppings on the side that was just cooked. You then put olive oil on the other side and put back on the BBQ. It is delicious!

Re: Homemade pizza
I buy frozen dough from Whole Foods or fresh from our pizza place. Do you use a pizza stone? I put a little flour/cornmeal down and roll out the dough on the stone, then just top and cook at around 400 until it looks done (I usually set the timer for 15 minutes to start)

Re: Homemade pizza
I've made this several times . I use plain frozen Pillsbury pizza dough. I put all the toppings on in the beginning and bake everything at once, though. SOmetimes I add veggies, such as chopped red peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, or broccoli. It has always come out really well!
(10-ounce) portions frozen pizza dough, thawed 4 tomatoes, thinly sliced 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil 1 cup shredded mozzarella 1/2 cup thinly sliced basil leaves Directions 1. Heat the oven to 475° F..(I go by the directions on the pizza dough container)
2Roll out the dough on a well-floured surface and transfer an ungreased baking sheets (I put tin foil on the baking sheet and spray it with Pam)
3Arrange the tomatoes on top of the dough. Drizzle the pizza with oil and season well with salt and freshly ground pepper..
4Bake for 10 minutes, remove from the oven, top with the mozzarella and basil, and bake 5 minutes longer, until the cheese melts and the edges of the pies are crisp and lightly browned.

Re: Homemade pizza
I use TJ's pizza crust (they make a few flavors..yummy!) and some kind of pizza stone/pan seems like a must (I have 2 different ones as gifts...both yield same results)...leave the dough out for the prescribed 20 mins. then flour and roll out....place toppings and bake...it comes out good every time..I've also used the Pillsbury pizza crust in the tube...that's even easier and yummy, too...good luck!

Re: Homemade pizza
I always buy the dough from the pizzeria. I have tried making it, and for all the effort I think the one from the pizzeria is just as good! I cook it at 400 degrees for 15-20 min on the pizza stone and it always comes out nice and crispy. You have to let it sit a few minutes after you take it out of the oven though, or else it will be soggy.
I make a bunch of variations....
-put a little bit of olive oil and chopped garlic on the crust. Cover with a layer of very thinly sliced plum tomatoes. Sprinkle with grated parmesan cheese and basil.
-olive oil and a little chopped garlic on the crust. Cover with shredded mozzerella and then a few dollops of ricotta
-plain sauce with different toppings (pepperoni, peppers, onions etc)
-BBQ chicken or buffalo chicken come out good! you can use leftover chicken and season how you like (either bbq sauce or hot sauce) I use no tomato sauce, just some cheese sprinkled on the crust and then the chicken over it and a very little bit of cheese over that.

Re: Homemade pizza
I make my own pizza dough, (from a previous thread I started)...
In a large bowl, mix the following: 1 cup of warm water 1 package of yeast 2 TBSP oil (vegetable or olive) 1/2 TSP salt ~3 1/2 cups Flour
optional: 1 TBSP honey and 1 TSP sugar
OPTIONAL: Mix in italian seasonings (oregeno, parsley, rosemary, basil)
Let dough rise for 45 minutes (90 minutes best at 90 degrees). Leave dough in the bowl and cover with a dish towel/wax paper.
After rising, flour counter, pull dough onto the counter and knead (or my new trick is to use my rolling pin, so the dough is even thickness throught.) Spread onto pizza pan that is lightly oiled to avoid sticking.
Preheat oven 400 degrees for cook for 15-20 minutes.
Place any number of toppings on the pizza dough. In the past, I used a little sauce, covered it in mozzarella cheese, then I added diced onion I had cut up, then I took the mushrooms I had previously sliced (it's cheaper to buy whole mushrooms, than the already sliced ones), then I covered it with sliced pepperroni , and sliced black olives. I've also cooked with peppers on top, diced tomatoes, extra cheese, zuchini, etc.

Re: Homemade pizza
I wanted to add. One package of yeast makes 2 sets of pizza's. What I normally do is split the dough in half after it has risen. I use one to make a custom pizza. The other half I use to make a calzone and cook it, but save it for another meal.

Re: Homemade pizza
I either buy it from the pizzeria or from the frozen section of the supermarket...we make tons of different varieties...our favorites are pesto w/ shrimp and Monterey jack and caramelized onion and goat cheese. A pizza stone is a must in our book; the crust comes out crisp and perfect!

I use the Pillsbury pzza dough also and it works well. I use a bar pan from Pampered Chef and I just put the dough in the pan, spread some tomatoe sauce on the dough and then put cheese & what ever toppings I am using and I bake it for 25 minutes at 400.
