Homesick-Does anyone not suffer from it
Okay I love my family, and I get along with all of my siblings, but none of us suffer from being homesick. We all moved out and went to college at 18, to all different states..Once I went 14 monts without flying home and it upset my mother that I could stay away that long. My brothers and sisters are the same way. When my sister did a year abroad, she chose to go see italy instead of coming home for the holidays and it hurt my mother's feelings badly.
I also always felt like if I only get 2 weeks vacation out of the year, I love my family, but I also like to go away on vacation...
Being away from home does not bother me, being there does not bother me(I live there currently) I am just neutral. On my honeymoon I never called home, and when I am on vacation I never call then either.
I don't think it is that I don't miss them, I think it is just that I am content in whatever i am doing at the time.
However, I do miss DH so much when he is away..

Maybe it’s because you are like inundated with family stuff. Living at home, having so many siblings. Maybe you just all savor any opportunity to break away.

Yeah, but when I was in my teens, I would be a nanny all summer, and live with them. And I lived in Florida solo with DH for 5 years, from 18 to 22...I have no problem with the thought of moving out of state next year as well..just weird I guess.

I'm so the opposite. I miss my family all the time. Last year the summer went by without my being able to go home, and I missed it so much. I had to go home this summer just to spend a day on the beach and get some ice cream. If I let the fall go by, I'll miss the chaging colors of the leaves. I miss specific streets in Manhattan! I miss specific restaurants!
I wonder if it's just because it's so difficult for me to get home? I talk to my parents twice a week for about 1 1/2 horus each time!

yeah I am a big phone talker to 3 of my sisters..the other one lives in Yosemite so her service is limited. but I think I would talk to them on the phone even if we lived on the same block. I would like to see them, but I don't really miss them that I am sick over it.

Re: Homesick-Does anyone not suffer from it
I went away to college knowing that weekend visits would not be practical, and I was not homesick at all. We now live an hour and a half from where I grew up, and I am finding myself a little lonely and homesick. I love where we live now, but there was a cost. It's not that far, but I feel like it's far enough that hopping in the car and driving down is not the most practical thing.

I'm like you Janice.
I moved out at 18 and never moved back after college. I love my family and I talk to them all the time, but we live 4 hours away from each other and our schedules don't always permit visits.
I miss them sometimes, but I wouldn't call myself homesick in the slightest.

Re: Homesick-Does anyone not suffer from it
There are times when I get really homesick. Esp if there is a family function going on that I cant me at. My Mom, sister and brother live in Ireland. I see my Mom once a year if I am lucky. I also have 1 sister in CA that I see 1 or 2 times a year but that will be over soon coz she leaving the end of the year.

Re: Homesick-Does anyone not suffer from it
It is weird because when I lived in Florida, there were so many people living down there without families..no one ever said anything about being homesick.
My parents had moved to Florida, then they moved back to NY because my mother was so homesick.
I am bringing my sister to college tomorrow, she is a freshman at Buffalo State, and my mother is so upset that she did not want somewhere more local.
DH is not homesick for his family at all. His brother is in Michigan, parents in Florida, and sister in Massachusettes.
