Homework over the break
OK OK, I get it, state tests blah blah blah. But Jordan's teacher gave her 16(yes SIXTEEN) pages(dittos) of reading comprehension, 10 pages of writing work, an essay to do and 8 math dittos. Are you kidding me? He has no kids and sometimes, as much as I like him, I really think that he doesn't get it.
ETA: and a reading log for each night & she is in 4th grade

Re: Homework over the break
My DD in 4th grade didn't get any. My DS in 8th grade got a lot of regents prep work (he's in the 9th grade regents classes). Not too bad.

Re: Homework over the break
I assigned none to my class and my kids had none. I think it's mean to give homework over a break. It's a BREAK from school. We all need one every now and then!!!

Re: Homework over the break
My 2nd grader has a 6 page math packet as well as reading to do. I personally am GLAD he has homework. I think he needs the structure of sitting down to do homework every evening.

Re: Homework over the break
That seems really excessive! I know a lot of family's who go away, when are the kids supposed to do that work??
My kids are still in school this week until tomorrow (they have off all next week), but I am waiting to see if they get any. They usually don't.

Re: Homework over the break
My son who is in 5th Grade has 2 Castle Learning assignments to do, one in Math and one in Language Arts, they are computer assignments.
What really would suck is if we went away how would he be able to do the homework without access to a computer?
Unfortunately because he has the state exams in May I prepared some homework for him as well.

Re: Homework over the break
I taught for years and gave homework every night, even on weekends. But on vacations, I never did. Who wants to fight over homework on a break?

Re: Homework over the break
Thankfully none of mine have homework. I have 4th, 2nd & K kids. My 4th grader is doing the state tests in May but her teacher said they needed a break!

Re: Homework over the break
Luckily DS didn't get homework during this break. He did get 31 sheets (some front and back) during Christmas break and it was just torture getting him to do the work. I understand why she gave homework, but I think the amount was a little excessive for Kindergarten especially when she gives homework every night and on the weekends. Sometimes the kids need a break every now and then.
