Honeymoon

Did everyone here go on a honeymoon, or do you plan on taking a trip later on?

For us, we waited...we ended up going to London around our 3rd anniversary. It was awesome!

I stayed at LaToc in St Lucia for our honeymoon. I wrote a review on TripAdvisor. It was ok, the food was average but the peace, tranquility and service at Sandals was superb. We were the for 7 days and did a lot, the beaches arent crystal clear blue like other islands though. The resort is a good 45 min-1 hr by cab, and the roads are very narrow and hill-y. Take some dramamine and you will be fine. I think I fell asleep on the cab ride because I was so tired from the flight.

Re: Honeymoon

we got married on a Sunday and left the Saturday after for our HM. We decided on a cruise throughout Europe and the cruise with the ports of call we liked didn't leave until 8 days after our wedding. We left for Rome on Saturday and stayed there until Monday when we left for our cruise out of Rome. We were on our cruise for 20 days and then we spent another week in Rome.
Honestly, the time of our lives!

You sound like me when I came back from Sandals St.Lucia as well..lol. Did you get a chance to see the Pitons at least? I actually complained to Sandals after our stay, we had an issue with housekeeping (completely inconsistent with cleaning schedule) and we never got a chance to eat at the French restaurant..I was pretty angry with the food options too. I wrote my review on Trip Advisor that really pointed out all our negative experiences so I wish I had relied on those reviews before blindly booking Sandals for our honeymoon. never. Again!

EDIT: I just read your HM review over at LIW. Holy cow. i thought my experience was bad- we had to wait about 2 hours for our room to be ready when we arrived the first day..and the attitude of the workers there, I agree we also were annoyed by it. if i were you, I would write a review on Trip Advisor stat! My co worker recommended Sandals but she went there in 2007 and I think the service in 2007 was much better than it is now.

Re: Honeymoon

You know whats really sick - I booked Sandals initially because my co worker said "oh you gotta go,its the best all inclusive resort on St Lucia!". I then went on LIW and read everyone else's reviews who said wonderful things.

I get there and BOOM - from day 1 I was crying. I was so upset about the service, the lack of a DECENT slice of pizza, the lack of room service options and the fact that the ONLY people who really wrote great reviews on LIW were morons who actually forked over more than $ 6 or $8K for BUTLER service rooms, or rooms that were higher priced. Considering DH and I both paid for this trip, I was very angry and disappointed. For the 6K we paid,we could have had a nice 7 day cruise with a Suite!

The majority of opinions on LIW re: vacations and honeymoons are not reliable. If you consider the fact that the majority of LIW brides are women in their early to late 20s who have no experience with REAL all inclusive resorts or GREAT vacations. Most of them will tell you, "Sandals was awesome!" because they have no frame of reference.

DH and I have taken great vacations before - with better service, better food and better entertainment for half the price. We are also much older (30s-40s) so we dont really care about the "drink till you pass out" aspect of honeymoons. I didnt start to enjoy my HM until day 4 or 5 and that was because we were a day closer to Departure!

My co worker even admitted to me after I got back from Sandals that St. Lucia was her first all inclusive resort experience, so she had nothing to compare her experience to! So LIW isnt the place to complain - lots of those girls arent very vacation savy, unfortunately. Chat Icon

Re: Honeymoon

We did a split honeymoon, a week at Sandals La Toc right after the wedding, and a week at Disney a few weeks ago, ears and all, but really no great freebies.

I for one LOVED Sandals La Toc. We were thinking of going to Sandals Antigua but we both loved the island and the resort so much that we want to go to La Toc again. We had Butler service and were on the Sunset Bluff (quieter butler only area with spectacular views) and I think that made a big difference.

Disney was great, too. It was our 6th trip togeher, but the first one in 3 years and we had a GREAT time. We got a lot of attention for it being our HM, but not any real freebies or special treatment for the most part, ut it was one of our best trips ever, if not the best.

We definitely came back from our HM with a really major souvenir...

No... not a baby... a timeshare.

I don't think it's really nice or fair to call people who paid for Butler service "morons" or to assume that people who loved Sandals are uneducated.

Some of the negative reviews I've read, i honestly took with a grain of salt because I felt like people were being too picky. I mean for example, "No decent slice of pizza"..you're expecting good Pizza on a Carribbean Island? That's what you're there for? I mean you can barely get palatable pizza in NJ, you want it in the West Indies? Their cheese and water are so different. I can tell you I had a panini and almost gagged on it, but the beauty was I could just order something else.

Whatever small things went wrong, we totally went with the flow and didn't let them ruin our trip. We embraced "island time" and the "no pressure, no problem" attitude of the Island.

Butler service to us was worth EVERY penny. We had a phenomenal suite with a breathtaking view. It was like heaven to wake up to that. We didn't have to rush anywhere because our Butler would reserve any chairs, reservations, beach spots we wanted. We got a full breakfast of our choice delivered and set up, tablecloth and all in our room every morning. Our mini bar had exactly what we asked for in it, including single malt scotch for DH. We came home to snacks, desserts, bubble baths, candles lit, etc. At the beach, we'd have coolers of drinks and favorite foods delivered along with frozen drinks. To us, it was very luxurious. They cleaned our room to the point of folding all of ourclothes every day. Everything was immaculate.

Was all of the food gourmet? No. A lot of it was just ok, but I've eaten at many top restaurants in NY, and dinner at La Toc was one of the most delicious meals I've ever had in my life. When we wanted it again but didn't feel like going out of the room, we had the meal delivered (2 entrees each because we felt like it) to our room with a white table cloth set up, all served for us and we watched the sun set privately in our room.

Maybe that's not YOUR definition of a luxurious vacation, but I haven't had the fortune to travel to 5 diamond resorts to compare it to, but I don't think I'm a "moron" for having paid for something that made our vacation an absolute dream for us, or for thinking it was great.

It's in Castries. It's very close to the city and the Marina, but it's the rainier part of the island wth ROugher seas. It's only like a 20 minute drive, but the weather is totally different in Gros Islet, where The Grande is. Gros Islet is sunnier and the water is much calmer. One big advantage to Castries though is there were NO mosquitos. i think because of the volcanic soil on that side or something wheras we went to the Grande one night and got totally bitten up

My opinion is just that, my opinion. I didnt have a fantastic time as I have had at other all inclusive resorts. Plus your post proves my point - you were in a Butler room so right off the bat, you were given the red carpet treatment from the get go. Like I said in my earlier post, we couldnt even GET reservations at La Toc and that was from the FIRST DAY we arrived at the resort!!! My co worker didnt have a Butler room but she said it didnt matter since it was just a nice "extra" to have when making reservations. When I called Sandals the week before to ask about restaurant reservations, I was told I could make them any time we arrived..Yea, right. What a corck of baloney - the story they DONT tell you is that to have even a crack at the best eateries on the Sandals resorts you basically NEED a butler!! And the level of service provded to the non Butler rooms was just downright abysmal. It did not seem worth it to us to pay $ 2,000 extra to get service which other resorts automatically provide to ALL their guests, regardless of room type. That was such a bunch of bull&&it.

My point is, for the price we paid for an ocean view room, our experience was very sub par for what we got at other resorts we have been to. And no, I am not calling YOU specifically a "moron", but at the general "OMG Sandals is the best-est thing ever!" type reviews on LIW from other brides who, like you, have no other resort experience to compare it to.

And the pizza is just 1 example - there were other incidents we saw that I didnt even post about but that are in my review- ranging from the lack of cleanliness in the main eating area at La Toc to the outright callousness of some of the staff while we were there... I dont want to remember them because it gives me a sour taste in my mouth. I just know I wont go back.

Re: Honeymoon

I have heard other all inclusives are better, give you more without paying for it, but we had an amazing time at Sandals and it was worth every penny.

After having read MANY many reviews about La Toc I knew that 1) We made a good decision but going for Butler service because we did get treated like royalty and avoided some issues other people might have had, like a lack of availability of pool and beach chairs or difficulty getting dinner reservations 2) I told my friend who did not have a Butler to make all of her dining reservations on Day 1 so she could get into La Toc.

I'm really sorry you had a bad experience, but the condescending attitude is really not called for.
