Hoping I can get some advice

DS's nursery teacher had a miscarriage last week at almost 8 weeks. Chat Icon From what I understand this was not her first miscarriage.

Since it was the last day of school (she miscarried the night before) I was not able to express my condolences her.

I wanted to send a card (or maybe soemthing else - suggestions would be great) or should I not?

I know when I miscarried before having DS I didn't want to talk about it after the fact or have anyone say they were sorry. That was me though - I don't want to assume that is her as well.

I don't know what to do.

Re: Hoping I can get some advice

Out of curiosity, why do you know this about your child's teacher? This is absolutely nothing against you-- but I do feel like it's unprofessional on her part if she's sharing this information with parents. I also find it particularly strange if she's informing people of a pregnancy at such an early stage, particularly when kids are involved! I imagine it being really hard to explain to a nursery school age kid, "mrs.m was having a baby, but now she's not".

When I was teaching, I had many losses. My students didn't know about any of them besides my first because I was 17wks along and already came out as being pregnant. I personally would not have wanted acknowledgment about the loss from parents. I would have found it extremely awkward and an infringement on my privacy.

If she openly speaks to parents about this stuff, then I guess that's another story.

She had the assistant tell us because its was the children's Christmas party that day. The last miscarriage she had was the day before their Halloween party - so she missed that.

She also missed a beginning of school fair - that has been eluded to also miscarrying.

She told the assistant that she wanted us (the parents) to know why she has been missing from these events. That is why we were told. She didn't mention the previous ones until this last one.

I didn't think she needed to tell us but I respect her decision to tell us.

Hmm, well since it seems like she wants people to know, then there wouldn't be anything wrong with acknowledging it. It does seem unprofessional on her part though, just my opinion. It's thoughtful of you to want to do something nice.
