Should I pack my own pads (Always) and breast pads? Or will hospital provide. I'm worried they're going to be cheap with everything.
Am I missing anything critical?

Re: hospital bag
I would bring your own pads if you don't want the thick ones they give you in the hospital. I brought some always infinity with me.

Re: hospital bag
You are way over packing! You don't need to bring your own pads or breast pads (you won't even have milk yet when you leave the hospital - comes in around day 5!). Here is what I would pack:
Post delivery
Comfy clothes to wear in the hospital Mommy come home outfit Nursing tank tops Underwear (only for going home) Toiletries Makeup
Labor and delivery
ChapStick Sugar free hard candy Camera Phone and charger Insurance info ID Toothbrush and paste Snacks for DH Hair ties
Post delivery for baby and breastfeeding
Boppy (I never used it - nurses set you up with pillows) Take home outfit with cap Pramsuit Blanky Baby wipes Hand sanitizer for visitors (hospital provides)
I brought my own clothes for the baby to wear while in the hospital because I knew we would get lots of visitors and I wanted DDs in cute outfits instead of the white shirts the hospital provides.

Re: hospital bag
Here's the thing about pads.
For me, I'm a wings girl - I need wings.
The hospital kind did not have wings.
So, for me, I wanted good pads with wings.
That is all.

Re: hospital bag
For me I'm packing super light this time. They have super thick pads which I needed while in the hospital. The regular always wouldn't have worked for me for those two days.
I didn't like nursing bras, so I'm only bringing sports bras this time.
I stayed in black yoga pants and a maternity tank. I'm bringing big granny panties this time too. And my regular toiletries.
I didn't use anything during labor except my charger and phone. Not even the snacks that I brought.
For the baby in just bringing the take home outfit and the bundle me will be on the car seat.
Your list seems complete to me!

Re: hospital bag
I used the pads from the hospital - along w/ the mesh underwear which seemed like the best thing ever at the time. No need for breast pads, boobs were not leaking while i was there. Really, here's what I used - almost basically what I ended up packing:
For me: - Two pairs of PJ's, two loose shirts, and a black robe. Going home outfit was a t-shirt and a pair of yoga pants. - Toiletries, make-up - Phone charger (I used the phone camera) - Nipple cream - this was super helpful - Chapstick
For DH: - Pair of Pjs' (short and tshirt) - second day, he went home, showered and changed.
For DS: - Go home outfit + blanket for it - I didn't bring a pacifier, but would have. They gave us one in the hospital but we had to seek it

This exactly!! I wore yoga pants and a tank top the whole time with a sports bra. I wore granny panties and brought my own pads!

You are seriously over packing. Honestly, you are NOT going to want to blow dry your hair and straighten it, let alone make up. If you feel you need a little something for pictures (which, honestly, you won't) then bring a little make up. But you're barely going to be up for showering. Don't worry about the nursing cover, if you need to nurse the baby and people are there, kick them out, you aren't going to be coordinated enough to blind nurse (nurse without seeing the baby latch the whole time). I think that AKD has a great list of items to pack. The only thing I would add for both you & DH are slippers you are OK with throwing out. Anything that touched the ground in the hospital I wanted to sterilize, and the slippers I just tossed. Maybe it was because I had the c-section, but I stayed in the hospital gown the whole time, and I wore their disposable undies with their pads - the nurses & nurses assistants made these awesome contraptions, they took a chucks, folded it in 3 long ways, then put 2 of their super thick pads head to head long ways and then gave that to me to use. It was great and got everything... made me feel totally protected.

hospital bag
The only things that I packed and used were comfy pants and nursing tank ( to wear in hospital), going home outfit, cheap slippers, socks, chapstick, hair tie, shampoo & bodywash, baby going home outfit, breathable blanket, camera and phone charger. The hospital provided eveything else that I needed.

Re: hospital bag
I pack a lot. I have c sections so I usually have to stay 3 or 4 days. I just packed my bag actually. No pads I just use hospital provided ones.
In my bag *I packed four loose fitting, light weight outfits for myself, loose underwear, nursing bras and socks. I usually stay in the hospital gown the first day and the following days I wear my own clothes. I pack an extra outfit in case of a mess. I bled heavy. *Flip Flops for the shower. I'm not a fan of standing in public showers. Especially with how messy childbirth is. *Bath robe and slippers * I packed two towels from home that I don't mind getting ruined. The hospital towels I found to be small and annoying. * I packed my blow dryer for my last baby and used it every day. This time just gel and light makeup. Definitely Chapstick! * Boppy for breast feeding
In diaper bag * Two little onesies in case I want to change baby at all. * One footsie sleeper with matching hat. * Take home outfit with matching hat, socks and mittens. * Nail clippers * My Camera
Blanket and Carseat on take home day

Pending on where you deliver you may not need a blow dryer. They have them at LIJ and I think North Shore Manhasset

They definitely have them at LIJ?? If that's the case I will take it out of my bag... I didn't actually get into the bathroom when we were on the tour.

Blow drying and (especially) straightening your hair is the last think you're thinking about after you have a baby.
The hospital has hand sanitizer, pads, etc.

Re: hospital bag
Bring what you like in terms of "toiletries". I brought a blow dryer and makeup the first time and definitely used them! There is something about taking a shower and getting yourself "ready" that makes you feel so good. Plus I want to look nice for visitors.

I completely disagree. It depends on the person. I cannot stand the feeling of having wet hair. It makes my skin crawl. The last thing I want is another reason to feel uncomfortable after giving birth!

I have to admit, I did bring my blow dryer, make up, and flat iron and I used it each day. I am kind of funny about looking presentable and I was having tons of visitors so it was important to me to look and feel good. I had a pedicure before my cesarean and a wax - I was very dedicated to feeling good about how I looked. I wore a full face of make up during my CS - eyeliner, mascara, and all. Made a difference in the pics!
But yeah, I'm a little nutty about that stuff so I could understand why someone might want to bring that.
