Hospital bill question - help
So it turns out the anesthesiologist my hospital used on the day ds was born is out of network and my insurance covered only portion of the bill... now they are harrasing me to pay $1100.00 of that bill do any of you have any experience fighting something like that? I am writing them a letter saying that we cannot afford it, which is true at this point since I have been out of work for almost 5 months now... just curious about people's thoughts? maybe you have some ideas what to do? I find it pretty weird that I wasnt informed that they dont accept my insurance especially since I pre-registered and they had all my info...

Re: Hospital bill question - help
Can you speak with your HR person to help you?
I have a feeling this is going to happen to me as well. Somehow I am going to have to send a letter or put in my file at the hospital that if it is not in network, then I will not be paying the bill if the insurance co does not pay for it. And have the hospital sign it.
Let us know how you get it fixed when it happens!

I figured someone here must have had this problem- you may want to use the search feature. Here's what I came up with. http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic.aspx?&P=1&ID=181217#P2339701
Good luck!!!

File an appeal. They will most likely deny it, then you have to file a second one. Also file a complaint with the NYS dept. of insurance citing that you had no control over which anethesioligist was used while you were in labor. You weren't given a choice.

Re: Hospital bill question - help
What I did was call the office that is sending you the bill and tell them your situation - the not knowing that they weren't part of the network, not working
tell them it isn't your fault that they weren't part of your network - what were you supposed to say - oh no don't deliver my baby cause you are not in my plan
After calls back and forth, the office knocked down the bill and let me pay in installments.

It is a pain in the azz - I went through the same thing - cause all of our insurance goes through a union - and they stink sometimes - so I had to do it all myself,
oh yea - I meant to say - I fought them about the fact that I got the bill 4-5 months after I had DD too.

Re: Hospital bill question - help
This happened to me as well. While I was being rolled into have a c-section the anesthesiologist said he was not part of my network. What could I do at that point. When I got the bill I called my insurance company and told them what happened. I also called the anesthesiologist billing and said no way am I paying anything to you and told them what happened. They actually re-submitted the bill to the insurance agency got more $$ from them and they said they would not hold me responsible for the balance.
I would not send them a dime of your $$.

Fight it...that is NOT your problem...especially since they had all your information BEFORE they sent the anasthesiologist over...I can't believe these people...

Re: Hospital bill question - help
I'm going thru the exact same thing. I got a 7k bill & was told its not been paid b/c the dr was out of network...um at that point I'm not checking the dr's affiliations.
They just had me resubmit it as an out of netwk expense & DH said the union may accept it as payment in full...we'll see. So frustrating though

unbelievable right? what pi$$es me off the most is that all of us are honest people, trying to do the right thing while there are so many people taking advantage of the system and they dont have problems like we do...

same thing happened with my neighbor after several phone calls the bill was lowered and they set up a payment plan

Re: Hospital bill question - help
I received a notice from the doctor doing DS's surgery next week and it says that it's not guaranteed that the anthesiologist that is there that day will take his insurance
