Hospital Stay questions?!?

-Did you bring your own pads?
Which ones do you recommend??

-Where did you find a nightgown?
I can not find one for anything, I am really not a nightgown person, but figured I would bring a dark colored one.

-All I have to bring is one outfit, (take home) for baby....right??

Thanks ladies, sorry for all the questions!!Chat Icon

No. Use the hospital ones. And they will give you to take home.

I got a nightgown from Sears. I did not wear it though. I wore the hospital gown the first day, then yoga pants and a long sleeve t the second day.

Yup. And your carseat!

Re: Hospital Stay questions?!?

I just told my cousin all of this two days ago so it's fresh in my mind. Chat Icon

I got a nightgown at Kohls - I'm not a nightgown girl either - but it really was good that I got one - especially since I had a c-section.

They supply pads at the hospital - really good ones too - steal them before you go home!

I packed two pairs of capri pj pants and a few t-shirts and tank tops for the hospital (I feel like I always had a feeling I would have a c-section)

For the baby I had his coming home outfit, and a blanket I think. You won't need anything else for the baby.

Don't forget your cell phone charger - and your camera charger.

Bring snacks. They came in handy when I was hungry late at night - I brought mini applesauses, gum, rice krispie treats.

Bring your own pillow - it will make your stay that much better!

Oh - and a boppy for the baby! That was huge for me!

Re: Hospital Stay questions?!?

I used their pads (still have some!Chat Icon )

I used PJ's. Men's size - Large from Kmart I normally wear Medium Ladies. I had a C/S and it gave enough room for the bandages and weren't riding the incision.

Nurses suggested I use granny undies and I didnt, but I think I should have. Chat Icon

Take home outfit stayed at home until the day she went home.

-Did you bring your own pads? I did bring but I just used the ones in the hospital. oh and bring big panties , I had all my lowriders and they were digging into my c section incision
Which ones do you recommend??

-Where did you find a nightgown?

I bought one nursing gown from motherhood. I was not able to nurse anway, and i felt really uncomfy in it because my stomach was still big, so I felt fat! I stayed in the hospital gown for a few days and changed into mine the last day. I wouldn't even bother next time.
-All I have to bring is one outfit, (take home) for baby....right??

yes just bring one for you and one for baby. another thing, I had to wear DH shirt home because again ( don't know what I was thinking) I brought regular clothes and my shirt didn't fit. I though after you have the baby , your belly goes completly flat again right after

Thanks ladies, sorry for all the questions!!Chat Icon

I did bring my own pads, but used theirs the first day or two. I brought Always Overnight with Wings--the best!

I didn't bring a nightgown. I wore top and bottom. I've had two c-sections and personally, I think it's just as easy to pull the front of the bottoms down if they need to check the incision. If you really need a nightgown, I would check Target.

And yes, I only brought a "going home" outfit for DDs.

Pretty much the same as everyone else. I brought yoga pants and t-shirts and my maternity underwear. I drove myself crazy looking for a robe but didn't use it anyway.

No need to bring pads, theirs are great!

I found a nightgown in Target. I also got lounging pants and a matching tank that I could nurse in there.

Yes, all you need for the baby is something to take him/her home in.

Re: Hospital Stay questions?!?

I didn't wear a nightgown, and I really don't think it's necessary (unless you really want one). I bought a cute set of matching mommy baby PJ's online at Old Navy and the bottoms were very loose fitting for when they came to "check" me.

I used their pads..they were huge and worked better than what I had!

I brought my hairdryer, toiletries and slippers.

Re: Hospital Stay questions?!?

I used their pads
Wore sweat pants and nursing tanks
Bring an outfit and I brought my boppy
Also if you are planning to bf they sell this little suction thing to get your nipple to really stick out and I feel like that would have been really helpful when trying to learn how to nurse

Re: Hospital Stay questions?!?

I used the hospital pads and still have a big supply of them 3 weeks later. they also give you disposable underwear which are fantastic.

i got a pant and nursing top outfit at motherhood maternity.

yes, bring an outfit for baby to come home in and bring an extra outfit in a size bigger, i needed to use the bigger size, glad i didn't just bring the small newborn one.

bringing a boppy pillow really helps

i'm also glad i brought dd some socks to put on her while she was in the room with me. they just put dd in a little top and wrap her in a blanket, i liked looking at her feet alot....lol so i brought her some socks to keeep her feet warm.

everything else you need, the hospital provides.i saw all these long hospital lists and i felt that i slacked off in packing but they give you everything you need,

i reccommend packing a ncie snack bag. it helped a lot since dh was there the entire day and got hungry as i did too in between meals.

-Did you bring your own pads?

The hosptial provides you with pads but I also brought my own. Always Overnights with Wings. I wore my own after the first night because they had the wings and I hate sleeping on white sheets.

-Where did you find a nightgown?
I didn't wear a nightgown. I got oversized drawstring cotton pants and a big V-neck Tshirt from Target. I also brought a pair of my own oversized flannel PJ pants and a Tshirt.

-All I have to bring is one outfit, (take home) for baby....right?? Yes, bring a take home outfit for the baby. I brought 2 (in 2 different sizes) just in case the baby was really small/really big.

I also brought travel sized shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. They were great because the shower was REALLY small and there wasn't any room to bend down and pick up the bottles. So they fit on the soap dish/holder that was in the wall. No bending necessary! I know it may sound silly, but I also brought my makeup with me as well. Taking a shower, blow drying my hair, and putting on my makeup made me feel normal again. I'm so happy I brought it all with me.

I brought my own pads. I doubled Always with wings front to back. So much better for me because it didn't feel like a diaper.

Did you bring your own pads? Yes, the ones the hospital provided me didn't have the sticky on the back (they were made for when women used to wear the belt...HA!!!) I recommend anyone that is like Super Super absorbent.

-Where did you find a nightgown?
I didn't wear a nightgown (I'm not a nightgown person either!) I just wore dark colored maternity yoga pants and tank shirts and hoodies.

-All I have to bring is one outfit, (take home) for baby....right?? I only did, and it was fine, the hosiptal provided her with a onesie and we kept her swaddled in the receiving blanket, but there were some babies in the nursery wearing their own pj's.

Good luck!!!

Re: Hospital Stay questions?!?

Pads---I brought my usual overnight with wings, but they hospital ones were so much more comfortable. Generally speaking I would say that the thick hospital pads would be uncomfortable for a regular period but after a VB it is much more comfortable to have something that is more padded "down there". It really felt a thousand times better with the thicker pad.

Nightgown-- I brought two that I had gotten from Lands End, but ended up staying in the hospital gown the whole time I was there. They were good for when I was home at least.

Outfit for baby- I didnt dress DD in her clothes until right before it was time to take her home so I only brought one outfit...a onesie, sleeper, sweater, hat and bunting (DD is a December baby). While you are in the hospital the baby wears a onesie supplied by the hospital and blankets.

I think for a c-section it really is necessary - you can barely move so I couldn't imagine pulling down my pants the first day or so. By day three I was in my capris - before then there was no way I could have done it.

Re: Hospital Stay questions?!?

I had a c-section and wore the hospital gown the first 2 days and then yoga pants and flannel PJ pants the next two days with button down tops.

I did bring my own pads - Always overnights with wings here, too. The hospital ones were just OK, since I am used to the wings, I always feel like I will leak if I don't have them.

For the baby, I brought 2 outfits, one newborn and one 0-3 months, because I didn't know how big he would be. Then, just the car seat and blankets.

I also brought snacks and juice boxes and was so glad I did.

No. I used the ones they gave me at the hospital. When I got home, I used these 2 pads:

Always Maximum Protection Maxi With Flexi-Wings

Always Long Super Ultra Thin With Flexi-Wings

-Where did you find a nightgown?
I did not wear a nightgown. I wore yoga pants both days and a large comfy t-shirt and sweatshirt.

-All I have to bring is one outfit, (take home) for baby....right??
Yes. You could have your DH bring your outfit and the baby's outfit the day you will be discharged. Since my DD stayed in the NICU, I didn't care what I wore when I came home.

Good luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Hospital Stay questions?!?

I would bring some water bottles. Also as far as snacks don't be afraid to ask the nurses. They were really nice and brought me snacks when I asked.

Re: Hospital Stay questions?!?

Pads... I used the hospitals the first day and a half, and at night, and then I couldn't take them anymore. They were too big and bulky plus they had that baby powder scent that was making me nauseous! I had my mom bring me up always overnights with wings as well...

I had a c-section. I didn't wear a nightgown. I had two pairs of pajama pants and tops, and my sister brought me another pair when I had the baby. It was good having a few pairs since you are in them all day. If you are going to wear pants, I would recommend dark ones because of the bleeding. I had no problems at all pulling my pants down for the nurses/dr to check my incision. I brought something to wear home for myself but ended up just leaving in my PJs. Bring a good pair of slippers. I ended up havin to wear my slippers home because my feet were so swollen.

I brought two going home outfits for the baby as well. One was a little bigger and one was super cute! LOL. Dressing a newborn for the first time wasn't easy so I was happy with the bigger outfit and I'm sure he was more comfortable in that as well.

Snacks are a good idea... someone mentioned a phone charger- that was a must have.
