It would be cute if you could coordinate the food with one of the themes from the book, but since I don't know what the book is- here are some general appetizer ideas:

-bruschetta (tomato, mozz and basil with balsamic)
-olive tapenade with crackers or soft slices of bread to spread it on
-cheese platter
-mixed olives
-fresh vegetables with a dip
-buffalo chicken wing dip with chips
-stuffed mushrooms
-crab salad in puff pastry cups
-nachos with guacamole and salsa
-mini meatballs with a dipping sauce
-baked brie
-fruit platter
-hummus and pita
-spinach & artichoke dip
-anything in puff pasty

Since the book is the hunger games, I'd recommend something with goat cheese, either a dip or a spread of some sort or on baguette slices or inside puff pastry. Goat cheese usually goes well with basil and sundried tomatoes. Also, bread is prevalent in the book, so maybe a bread platter with different dips or toppings for it (like a spiced olive oil, hummus, olive tapenade, spreadable cheeses, etc). You should def. do something with fruit- strawberries (which is super cheap right now) and blackberries most specifically. Also maybe something with apples. Maybe you can have apples with a honey or caramel dipping sauce or do mini/bite-size apple tartlets of some sort. Also have a bowl of mixed nuts. They mention a lot of dessert in the book, but I figured you want to stick solely to appetizers.
