Re: Hotel babysitters??
the other alternative is to not bring your kids and leave them with your parents or something.

knowing you... I'd be surprised if you truly felt comfortable dropping them off.
A friend of mine did somethign similar only she got the girls name beforehand, had her fax over a copy of her drivers license, spoke to her on the phone a few times, checked out her facebook page. She went a little crazy w. it (as would I) but in the end it worked out and she had a great night out with her hubbie.
good luck!
I'm not at all comfortable with it. And I told the bride that. She did say, she only shared the info (list of names and phone numbers, with credentials) with me b/c my SIL requested it and wants to do it - so she thought she'd share with me too. I'm not OK with it, but I know I'll get pressure to do it since SIL will be doing it. Also, we're not staying at the hotel where the wedding is - so that's a big issue for me. I'd sooner call it a night and take my kids back to the room (obviously DH would stay for his bro's wedding) when they're done for the night.
Oh, and ETS - it wouldn't be drop off - it'd be in our room after we get them to bed (it's a suite so obviously the babysitter would be out in the LR area)

no way.
but i am also someone who would never use a cruise camp or anything like that either.
Same here. I only trust a VERY FEW select people to care for my child.

Re: Hotel babysitters??
I don't think I would feel comfortable, I would rather take my kids to the wedding/reception and bring them home with me when they were done. My kids were invited with us to a wedding this past spring, so I had a 3 month old and a 2 year old--my 2 year old who is usually in bed partied until 11pm and loved every minute and my little one just slept, granted we had to watch our boys, but we all had a good time!

Re: Hotel babysitters??
Is the wedding at the hotel? If so, I wouldn't love it but I'd do it. If the wedding is offsite, no go until they're both old enough to speak - 18 mos and 3 IMO is too young.
Call around for daycares in the area and see if someone can babysit - then they're at least vetted by the daycare.
I feel your pain - we literally just went through this last weekend and my cousin came through with a friend who was looking to get out of the city for the weekend (wedding was driveable, though - Massachusetts - so no one would have to pay for a flight or anything).

In theory, I think it's a great idea but I'd be way too nervous to actually use one.
This was exactly my reaction.

My thoughts are like the posters above. I would not feel comfortable at all especially since they are so young and unable to communicate too.

Re: Hotel babysitters??
i used one in Beaches T&C and had no problem doing it. they are ladies from the camp and the payment etc.. all goes through the hotel so they are vetted plus that's such a busy hotel and the service is used so commonly i wasn't nervous at all....on any night there are probably about 20 women in various hotel rooms around that resort.
you said that the list was from a service provided by the hotel.....i guess the question is what service? are they vetted by the service?
but on top of that not sure how comfortable i'd be going off-site to a different hotel....if it were in the same hotel i'd be more comfortable with it....but i'd hate to miss the fun/wedding so it's a tough one.

Re: Hotel babysitters??
I've left my baby/preschooler at a kids camp/infant center at a resort before, while on vacation at Club Med. But I felt more comfortable with that because the center operates like any daycare center with security, lots of workers, etc. I wouldn't feel comfortable with a hotel babysitter - it's just one person sitting alone in a room with your child.

I just wanted to say that if I were schlepping all the way to Key West for a family member's wedding and my kids were not invited to the reception I would be ****** and not even go. I know that's not what you're asking, lol, but I'm sorry it was my first reaction. I understand that it is common to not invite children to a wedding but for you BIL's wedding in Florida? No way that would fly w/ me...
As for the babysitter, no I don't think I would be comfortable. I mean, I don't think it would be irresponsible or anything but personally I am too nervous of a person... I would probably be more comfortable if my kids were a little older. Also, I would feel comfortable if it was more of a daycare/group atmosphere- like at the gym, kwim?
ITA and no I would not be leaving my kids w/a hotel babysitter. I don't trust anyone but my family and a very few close friends.

Re: Hotel babysitters??
Are there any other family members in FL that would be using a babysitter that they trust that you would be able to have watch your DC that night?

No. It is a very small wedding with pretty much just immediate family. The only other family with children is my SIL and she is apparently the one who requested this information from the bride. I already told the bride this makes me ubcomfortable and that I plan to just try and get the kids to crash in the stroller or call it a night when necessary. DH is the best man so obviously I would take the kids back to the hotel on my own.

Re: Hotel babysitters??
we actually are bringing a cousin to babysit for us for a wedding we have in Oct. She will stay in the hotel we are staying at with us. I dont think a wedding is the place for toddlers.
