Usual types of things are a plant, or a bottle of wine or champagne, or something else for the house (a picture frame, vase, nice bowl, etc...)
How close are you with the person and how much are you looking to spend?

things people brought me:
Tool Set PLants Wine and Champagne Lenox serving dish Home Depot Gift Cards Summer Outdoor "glasses" Home Basket- with holiday decorations, magnets,dish towels...etc Money
Other ideas: Blockbuster gif card with popcorn and candy
Scrapbook with materials for a new house -so they can start a scrapbook for the house
Restaurant GC-since $ might be tight when they first move in
Take Out menus for restaurants in the area -and some sort of box/folder something to put it in
Recipe book with the ingredients for one of the meals or desserts

My mom always gives a gift basket with some of the more traditional gifts and a little saying depending on what she put in it:
Broom - Sweep away the evil; Your house will always be clean
Salt - Represents life's tears that you will overcome
Bread - You will never go hungry
Candle - You will always have light
Honey - Represents the sweetness of life
Wine - Never go thirsty; Your home brings you happiness and joy
Coin - Bring good fortune for the year
Plant - You will always have life
Wood - Your life/home will always have stability, harmony and peace

best one I got so far is a Yankee Candle (the housewarmer - new home one) and a Home Depot Gift Card.
or since its getting nice out - target has nice plastic pitchers & Glasses
