** Planning ahead - plan meals ahead whenever possible; if we plan ahead we can usually all sit down to eat together.

What doesn't work:
-- Rigid shifts. Both have to be flexible b/c there will be days where I don't feel like cooking even though it's my night or Jake only wants his Mommy on Daddy's night to bathe, etc

TOTALLY agree with both points here. Planning ahead makes the routine go much easier - so, for example, after Alex goes to sleep, I prepare her lunch for the next day, get her bag ready, etc. That way, I'm dedicating my time that I'm with her after school to HER, instead of chores, and also, DH doesn't have to run around in the AM getting her stuff together.

But, also, we've learned you just have to go with the flow sometimes - adhering to a strict schedule will get yourself, and your child stressed out if anything goes awry. I'm lucky - for my job, I can show up anytime between 7:30am-9:30am. So, if something goes wrong that morning, or if Alex wakes up extra early instead of at 7am, I'll stay an extra half hour at home or so. As long as we're flexible, and work together as a team, it all works out in the end.

I work 9-5 and DH 8-6.
DD is 1yo and we have been doing this for about 9 mos.

Here's our schedule:

6 am (5:15 - 6:45) - DD wakes up so we get up. I change her diaper - DH gets bottle ready

6 - 6:45 - Drink bottle in bed and play with DD. This is DH's only time to see her during the week.

6:45 - DH showers. I play with DD or get her dressed.

7 - every other day - give DD a bath

7:15 - DH has breakfast with DD in highchair while I shower and get ready

7:30 - DH takes DD to IL's (2 days a week) or he just leaves for work

8:00 - My mom comes to pick DD up and I leave for work

5:45 - Pick up DD form IL's or my parents

6 - Home - Feed DD Dinner, get changed into PJ's cuddle and read and off to sleep by 6:30 - 7.

6:45 - I start dinner

7 - DH gets home - we eat clean up and relax

10 - go to bed.

I can't believe how much work you all do and make it look so easy. I go back to full time work in August and am dreading this whole thing. To say I am not organized is an understatement. This thread really helped.

I definately need to get DH on board since he works from home a lot of days. His days of sleeping in are soon overChat Icon

TOTAL CHAOS at times. I work days 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and don't get home until after 6:30 p.m. DH works 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. He comes home and I'm asleep, I go to work and he's asleep. Basically DH and I see each other on the weekends. He sees the kids in the morning where they have breakfast together and then puts them on the bus to school. They come home and go to sitters until I pick them up at 6:30 and that's when my day trully starts!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks ladies - I've gotten some ideas on now to make things go a little smoother. I just have to get DH on the same page.
