I eat cold cuts every day. If you're worried you can heat it up.

No worry about cold cuts as long as they are fresh! I haven't heard of any listeria cases from cold cuts in my life, but plenty of stuff in the news about listeria from cantaloupes, ice cream, spinach, apples, etc., ha.

Re: how bad is it..
I have one at least once a week. I'm not afriad of turkey from a Deli I trust. The only place I won't eat cold cuts from is Subway, and that's juts bc it sits out all day and grosses me out.

I ate cold cuts my entire pregnancy!!! With all the recent outbreaks of listeria in fruit, I just find it ridiculous that cold cuts are singled out as things to avoid. The irony is crazy to me. I ate whatever I wanted last pregnancy (with the exception of raw seafood and sushi) and my son is fine!

I have never once in my life heard of an outbreak of listeria in cold cuts. EVER. I have heard of it in a million other random things though. Where did the cold cut thing even come from? So strange.

Re: how bad is it..
Bad to eat cold cuts, that's what my OB says. That being said, I had the most amazing Ham and Cheese sandwich on a roll with mayo / lettuce / tomatoyesterday. Amazing and I can't stop thinking about it. Yum. Delish. I can't eat anything but that sandwich made me happy.
What's wrong with canteloupe? I just had some, are we not supposed to eat that?

Nothing is wrong with it normally, but there was a listeria outbreak traced back to cantaloupes a few years ago. The "bad food" list seems pretty arbitrary to me, because the e. coli / listeria / salmonella outbreaks seem to be linked to any random kind of food, so I think you just have to eat from trusted sources and that's the best you can do.

I was SICK and I was told that if I could keep it down, I could eat it. Seriously, if all you can eat is cold cuts, eat them every day. Dehydration and malnutrition and for worse than the almost nonexistent chance you'll get listeria from some cold cuts.

I thought it was only soft serve ice cream. Which is still pretty cruel in my opinion.

There was a recent listeria outbreak with Blue Bell brand ice cream. The point several of us were making was just that the list of "bad foods" doesn't line up with what has actually been causing listeria / salmonella / E. Coli etc. outbreaks so to some extent it's all a crap shoot, and you should probably just eat what you want/can (within reason of course).

Oh yeah! I totally forgot about that. It was off my radar since I wasn't prego yet. I'm a Haagen Dazs girl anyway, but you're right. It seems like it can happen anytime to any type of food. It's exhausting trying to figure out what to eat everyday!

What's up is ANY food can harbor listeria. So there was listeria in hummus, in blue bell ice cream, ,in some brand of ORGANIC frozen green beans, in cantaloupe one time, in bagged salad.
The point is, if you avoid every food that CAN cause listeria you won't eat anything at all

I didn't know about any of this except the cold cut and soft serve ice cream. Definitely can't avoid everything.
