How did you know you needed to change formulas?

DD is 2 weeks old & I wasn't able to breastfeed, so we are FFing. Shes been taking Similac Advanced, as thats what they gave us at the hospital and the Dr said to continue that since she was doing fine. This past week tho, she seems very gassy and maybe constipated.. like she's pushing and pushing, but can't go. She is pooping about twice a day. I have a call into the ped, but while I'm waiting, I'm just wondering what your experiences were..

TIA!

With my first DD she was on similac advanced and her tummy always seemed to hurt and she cried a lot when eating. My dr insisted it was normal and instead gave her pepcid for reflux but told me not to change the formula. This time with dd # 2 she was extremely gassy and I told a different dr in my practice that I def wanted to switch and which did she recommend. She told me I could try enfamil gentlease or similac sensitive. I went with the enfamil and I'm so glad I listened to myself this time. Her gassiness improved big time. Its stil not perfect but A LOT better!

I waited 8 weeks to call the ped, DS had similar issues to what you are describing. I waited because their systems are all a mess at the beginning.

We switched him to Gentlease and it worked a world of difference

Re: How did you know you needed to change formulas?

thanks ladies. Dr. called me back and told us to switch to gentle ease and that we should see a big improvement even by tomorrow (but def by monday) and if not, to call him again. Dh is out getting the gentle ease..Stop & shop doesn't have it..so he's checking other stores.
I also gave her some Mylicon and she's farting now. lol. they are pretty stinky! I'm hoping this and the formula will help. She is obv in pain and uncomfortable and not sleeping! She looks exhausted (as am I)

I am not a doctor, but I disagree with your ped, it took my DS almost 7 days before we noticed a difference on Gentlease.

DS was in a lot of pain and would scream in discomfort. We switched to Good Start at the recommendation of our pediatrician. We saw immediate improvements from the first feeding and it only got better as the first few days went on.

We were also given the simulac advance in the hospital. I BF, but also supplemented. We had the same problems with gassiness and constipation. When we went to the ped, he told us to start from scratch and recommended Enfamil Lipil (now premium). It worked miracles.

DS was originally on similac advance. He would cry and arch his back during feedings. He also had very loose BM (sorry TMI). We switched him to similac RS and it made THE BIGGEST difference!!!
