How did your child act when they had Fifth Disease

DD's little friend is apparently just getting over it, and DD was at her house 2 weeks in a row during the "incubation period", so I'm pretty much expecting that DD will get it. Chat Icon

She was perfectly fine & happy all weekend long, then last night barely slept at all-- tossing & turning; then this morning she's a bit congested/runny nose and DH says she feels slightly warm-- all early signs of the illness, according to what I've read online.

I have no direct experience with this, but I really hope C doesn't have it! Chat Icon I'm sure you know about the "slapped face" mark that appears on the face - that's pretty much all I know about it -- well, that, and that it's really common in young ones and that it's bad for pregnant women. Yeah, glad my sister wasn't able to come down afterall.

We're just waiting to see at this point...her nose is a faucet and she's slightly warm here & there...all the early warning signs they describe.

We'll see Chat Icon

I *think* it's one of the 5 diseases that have a high fever and then a rash. Are you pregnant? I think Fifth's disease is something you need to tell your OB about. I apologize if you aren't pregnant...I can't remember all the mommies that are having #2.

Re: How did your child act when they had Fifth Disease

My Mom works in a school and got Fifth's Disease last year. Then Ava got it.

At first she was cranky and out of sorts, then the rash came. At first I thought it was a sunburn, but then it looked like someone slapped her cheeks and arms.
The Ped says once the rash appears, they are pretty much over it.

Just steer clear of preggos. I actually caught it from DD and I was in my 3rd trimester. It was scary. I had to go to Madonna weekly, to monitor Brody's blood flow-brain and internal organs

He ended up being fine, but if there were any signs of distress, they would have delivered him asap.

The disease for adults was tough. Both my Mom and I got fevers and bad flu-like pains in the joints.

Re: How did your child act when they had Fifth Disease

Thanks for the replies ladies! I'm not pregnant, so that's one less thing to worry about. Everything I read says it's really no big deal (except for pregnant women, of course!), so I'm not too stressed, just looking for BTDT info.

Thanks!! Chat Icon
