how do i get this kid on the potty???!!
we have been attempting to potty train for months now. he will sit on the potty randomly, but maybe once or twice has he actually gone. i try every 20-30 mins, after naps, first thing in the am, and just randomly through the day. he SCREAMS at me. and i'm talking, hitting, crying, screaming, jumping off when i do get him on there. i'm ready to throw my hands up. he will be 3 in a few weeks. ds tells me when he's going, and when i try to get him on the potty, he screams. it has turned into such a power struggle.
i've tried treats, stickers, toys, games, everything. wwyd?? wait it out and try again?
he is starting school in a few weeks, and the teacher said most the boys are potty trained, but to send him in pull ups, and they will take care of the rest. should i just let peer pressure take its course, then reinforce at home?? i want to be consistent, but have no idea how to do this!!
by the way- he would sit in a wet diaper or underwear all day if i let him....

I think he is not ready. If he is screaming/hitting I think you need to close up shop and try again in a month or so

I agree with Cranky - he doesn't sound ready and it is probably counterproductive to push it. I would send him to school in pull ups and see if he is more interested when he sees his peers going.

Re: how do i get this kid on the potty???!!
You just described my daughter. I have no idea what the answer is! Everyone keeps telling me to do that 3 day potty training thing. I just don't have 3 days to sit in my house and I have new carpets!!!!
If you figure out a solution please let me know.

Re: how do i get this kid on the potty???!!
You described my son to a tee also...it is such a power struggle here that I just gave in and gave up. I will try again in a couple of weeks. I would let him go to school and see that the other boys are potty trained and maybe then he will want to be like them. I'm hoping for the same success here, since DS will be starting preschool in Sept.

Re: how do i get this kid on the potty???!!
I don't have any advice because I am right there with you!
DS will be 3 in 2 weeks.
A couple of months ago, he was constantly going pee pee on the potty at daycare and was doing so well. We didn't go full potty training because he would not poop on the potty. I had 3 days in a row of poop in his underpants and we went back to pull ups.
Now, he has completely regressed to the point where I tell him to go try and go potty and he will tell me no. I don't think I want to force him kickiing and screaming to go on the potty, so I have officially given up for now. We are going away next ween and when we get back he will start a new class at daycare. I am going to try again then... but I'm trying not to stress out about it. It will eventually happen and I don't have the heart to battle with him over it.
And yes, my DS will sit in a soaked pull up or a pull up full of poop forever and not say anything, so obviously it isn't bothering him yet!
