Since I don't have a potty trained kid... just curious as to what other parents think about this....

DH and I were at a local playground with DD on Sunday afternoon.

There were lots of kids there, many different ages.

DH was pushing DD on a swing and I was sitting on a bench next to this building that I thought had a bathroom. (I never checked, but assumed it was).

Anyway, two different kids apparently had to go to the bathroom.... not pee, but poop. (I know it was poop, because I heard them tell their parents they had to) I would say one of the boys was about 5 or so and the other maybe 7.

The parents had them just go up next to the tennis courts that were there, behind a tree and poop. I was Chat Icon as I never had seen this before in a public playground, EVER. They didn't clean it up afterwards either. I even asked DH what he thought about it and he was also like "ugh, that's gross" and NOTHING grosses him out.

It wasn't even like it was up in the bushes in a place where other kids wouldn't play, but pretty out in the open.

Now, it's a very local playground, most parents walk there with their kids why not take your kid home to use the bathroom?

I'm not looking to start a debate, but I've never seen this before, and just curious if this is common practice?

Also, shouldn't the parent have cleaned "it" up? I mean you have to pick up poop after your dog, why not your kid too? (and NO, I'm not comparing kids to dogs!)

That's disgusting -

I would assume with a kid, sometimes you're in a panic when they 'have to go' (Mine is barely 14 months) but to have them just 'go' outside ( EW !! ) and then to LEAVE IT THERE ???

I clean up after my DOG for God's sake !!! Who DOES that ??? DISGUSTING !

I have a potty trained kid and that is disgusting, truly. Now, I admit I have pulled over on the side of the road once or twice to let him, uh, "check the tires" when he really had to pee. But it was NOT a public area used by kids, and it was NOT poop!

Re: Since I don't have a potty trained kid... just curious as to what other parents think about this....

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to think that way. This park is in a VERY residential area too, it's kind of off the beaten path. It's relatively small which I like for DD (who's only 16 months). Set back behind houses. I only knew it was there because of a friend of mine, as I had driven past it so many times and never knew it was there.

Ok, that is gross. Chat Icon

While I get that the kid had to go, if it were me, I would have cleaned it up.

VILE!!!!!! I would never allow my children to poop outside. I have girls so they have never peed outside either, but I assume boys may.

That is GROSS!!!! I remember as a child if I had to go pee there was a rare occassion that my parents would pull over the side of the road and I would squat quickly never poop and never in public like that esp by a park!!!Chat Icon

That is just disgusting. I have seen little ones at the playground using little portable potties behind trees and I don't have a problem with that though.

My son had to have an adventure wee in our local park today, they have no toilets so its a necessity. Darn it, I have had to have an adventure wee in the park a few times. My friends kids have done poo's in the park, but we always do the doo and bag it up and take it away with us.

Sorry, but that is disgusting. And a health hazard.

The parks we go to have bathrooms, for the most part. If DD had to go #2, the park that does not is close enough so that we'd go home. If it's unavoidable, at least go in a bush or take it with you. Chat Icon

Re: Since I don't have a potty trained kid... just curious as to what other parents think about this....

I have a potty trained kid and I'd NEVER do that. Pee-yes, but not where kids play and not right out infront of everyone. Personally I usually try to stay with parks that have pottys. DS is super shy right now and he had to pee once when we were nowhere near a bathroom so I took him behind the building by a fence with bushes, but I think he was tramatized bc now he asks if there is a bathroom wherever we go.

Re: Since I don't have a potty trained kid... just curious as to what other parents think about this....

They are kids, I know kids don't have the "power" or so to speak to hold it until they can get home. I wouldn't have an an issue with it, if they parents cleaned it up afterwards. But to leave it there...Chat Icon is what truly disgusted me, that and the fact that it wasn't really out of the way where kids play, KWIM?

There IS a buidling there, that looks to have what is a bathroom (maybe it's a storage building, IDK, as I didn't really look - DD is still in diapers).

This is also a fairly upscale neighborhood too, and the people that go there are local to the town. Like I said, most WALK from their homes to the park... so take your kid home... RUN them home if you have to.....

At least clean it up..

Re: Since I don't have a potty trained kid... just curious as to what other parents think about this....

I have a potty trained kid and we have never pooped outside. We do however pee on the car tire if theres no bathroom nearby. The park we go to has bathrooms but sometimes fillthy, we have on occasion pees outside near the bathrooms in private. When nature calls, she calls...POOP however-that6s just nasty...I travel with a tiny potty in case wee need it for poop...the kid was 7?????

My best guess the 2nd kid was around 7. He was bigger and spoke like an "older" kid.

I mean he announced it.

As he walked towards his mother he said:

"Yo Mom, I have to Poop"

If we are at a park and there are no bathrooms we will hop in the car and go to the closest store with a bathroom. Sure..I get that kids need to go, but at 5 and 7 years old, they can hold it for a few minutes until they can find a bathroom.

Disgusting!! Too bad there wasn't a cop around. The parent should have been fined, just like if that was her pet. They probably let their kids do that pretty often.
