How do I know if it's a stomach virus or teething?

Ryan has very loose stool the last couple of days. I'm off today so it's actually the first time I'm witnessing it (my husband has mentioned). Anyway, this morning he woke up COVERED in poop - he was in a fleece footed PJ and it was literally under his arm pits - around his back, down his legs - b/c of the overnight diaper
Poor guy. Obviously I bathed him and took his temp, which is 100.1 so not technically a temp, but not that low.

Anyway, he seems like he could be teething (but we've been saying this since he was 12wks and still not a tooth).

Could it be a virus? He's eating just the same so I'm not worried he'll dehydrate and he's a little cranky, but overall happy and not miserable.

Any thoughts?

If he is eating fine it is most likely not a stomach virus.

Not sure how to tell, but either way i would make sure he gets lots of fluids to keep from getting dehydrated.

Stomach virus will have him throwing up usually...but of course not always.

But usually several loose BM are a sign of something teething or sick. A lot of it has to do with an increase in mucus and/or saliva.

Try to give him some banana as well as some yogurt (if he's eating that) and keep his bottom protected with ointment.

Well this morning's was almost like curdled milk (sorry TMI). And I gave him applesauce and rice for breakfast which he threw up - but he was on his playmat so I'm not 100% sure (although a lot more than just spit up).
