How do I know if it's infant diarrhea or just normal but more frequent BMs?
Today DD has had stool in her diaper at every diaper change, which isn't usual for us. However, her patterns do vary. Some days she has no BMs in her diaper and it seems odd, and there have been another occasion or two where it seemed she had increased BMs. The stool seems normal in color and consistency for her.
So how do I know if it's true diarrhea that needs to be addressed or can it be normal to have some days where you have so many BMs then some days with less or no BMs? DD is 2 mths old.
Please help me figure this out as I am nervous. I did leave a message for the dr and am going to get a call back at the end of the day.

I don't know... I've always wondered this as well...
does DC have a temp? that might be an indication of whether there's a problem. I'd take the temp, hopefully before the Dr. calls back, so you can give them that info....

I took the temp yesterday, it was normal. I have to take it today, just gave DD a bath so waiting about an hr for the temp to be normal.

If it is really loose( liquidy) then I would say its diarreah ! It should be soft but not watery
ETA: if dc is having frequent bm's with every change I don't think thats normal but I would definately speek with the doc on that one

if it is VERY watery then it is diarrhea; if not then its just loose stool

please define 'very watery' is pea soup or milkshake consistency very watery, or would it be even looser than that?

If it is normal consistancy its not diarrhea. If it is mucousy and/or explosive it might be diarrhea.
I think how many BMs a day can vary a lot. DS would skip 2 days then go 2 or 3x in one day.

what formula?? my son is on nutramigen and his poop is very watery...and totally explosive ( I know this is gross...but I was changing him today, and he totally had projectile poop....it flew at least 6 inches and went all over my hand ) The dr said that this is normal with the nutramigen (my other son was on it, but never had this, so I guess everyone responds to it differently).
But if she is going often, I would be concerned.
