Re: How do I throw a CHEAP party?
did you write 50 people? $2 a head? So you want to spend $100 on a party?
I think you guys need some $$ help from somewhere else.

I was thinking this. you may want to recruit a few more wallets. I would think you'd need at least $3-4 a head.

Re: How do I throw a CHEAP party?
it might be a little tough on that budget. could anyone else chip in? do you know someone who has a membership to restaurant depot? food is much cheaper there, and in bulk

Re: How do I throw a CHEAP party?
I would seriously let you do it at my house. I just don't know what the yard will look like then! Think we could fit them all inside? It's totally your call, just wanted to put the offer out there.
ETA - she would never expect it to be her party at my house.

I wouldn't be a big fan of a dessert party, but that's just me.
What area are you looking in?
Neither would I - sorry. I like the brunch idea.
I think one problem with a dessert party is that you have to make it pretty late - because if I was going to a party at night-time, I would expect dinner anywhere between the hours of 6-9 or so.

Second question for all you reading... If you were invited to party that was just dessert, would you feel "cheated" out of a meal and be inconvenienced by just coming for a dessert party??
No way! That's a great idea. Our friend's wedding had a lavish dessert with chocolate fountain, candy bar, pastries. You could also do an ice cream station, the whole works!
It would be even more special if you could do her favorite desserts, candy, and ice cream flavors.

Re: How do I throw a CHEAP party?
you can rent the Port Jeff village center on the water for $500 --- then cater a brunch from a deli for less than $10 pp
village center
OR ... I went to a gorgeous luncheon at the Setauket neighborhood House

It's going to be in June.
The problems I am facing are:
1. Location - it has to be a public place (I don't have any house to host it in)
2. It's going to be at least 50-75 people
3. I want to make it "more" than a backyard party
I kinda like that dessert party idea!!

What about a BBQ/party under the Paviliion at Wantagh Park, Holtsville Ecology Center, etc.? Laid back, yet a step up from the backyard BBQ.

Re: How do I throw a CHEAP party?
If the Neighborhood House doesn't work out for you I would recommend the North Shore Beach Property Owners Association Clubhouse in Rocky Point.
I've been there for a party and it's really nice! There's this HUGE stone fireplace that is so pretty.
Also, there's a bar in the room and a full kitchen off the main room so if you wanted to cater it yourself you could.
Here's a link with some pictures and rental info.
