How do we hide the wires in under cabinet lighting for the kitchen?
I have a question about undercabinet lighting for those that have done it. We didn't buy the lighting before we mounted the cabinets. Mistake yes I know. LOL. We have an outlet that is on a switch which is mounted in the cabinet above the fridge. We were thinking of using Xenon lights but wanted any other opinions. We are doing a tile backsplash so worst case scenario we could probably hide the wires in the morter? Any other ideas? We have molding for the cabinets that hasn't went up yet. On the bottom it is about an inch and a half molding so we shouldn't have any issues with the depth of the lighting. I figure one light to the right of the micro, one to the left, one in the corner, one to the left of the window and one to the right of the windows. Thanks.

all i know is that there is something called a "ballister?" that is supposed to be able to be gotten to. it's a code thing. the company that did my mother's house (levitstyle) left it behind the wall which is against code, i was told.
sorry, i can't help .

what about battery operated lighting? I cannot imagine you using the cabinet lighting that much...then get the molding that covers the lighting

Rachel..Thank you. I believe the ballast is the power transformer. I am going to hide it in the cabinet. I can't put it above the cabinets because we are going to the ceiling with the crown so it would never be accessable and then probably against code.

Thank you. My applicances are from Best Buy and Sears. The Fridge is a GE. The stove and range are from Kenmore and the Dishwasher is from Whirlpool. All muts. I have to say we absolutely love the fridge. Our filtered water is on the inside. We would have had to give up door space to have the water and ice on the outside.

I believe, when we had ours done, the contractor broke the wall in a line across to where the outlet was and then connected to the outlet in some way. Then patched the wall, then the tile backsplash went up. Hope that makes sense.
ETA: I also wanted to say, wow your kitchen looks a lot like mine. Good taste!

Thank you Jenn. We could cut the sheetrock out and put the wires behind the walls now. I know exactly what you're talking about. Did you go with Xenon or Halogen? Your kitchen looks amazing. You guys have great taste as well. It has been quite a process thus far. We are a little over a month into our project and we desperately need a break. The granite comes in a week.

Glad I could help. We went with Halogen. I think my DH had picked them out. Thank you Sean! We love how our kitchen came out. Please our remodel before we moved in took 4 months, so I feel your pain to a point. We weren't going through the remodel while in the house, but we really wanted to move into our first new home together. It's painful, but in the end it pays off. Once the granite is in, then it's pretty easy from there. That's great! GL!

I found these for you. This might be easier to a point, depending where the switch is of course.

Re: How do we hide the wires in under cabinet lighting for the kitchen?
I've been looking into LED lighting for when we do our kitchen next year. Low electric usage, no ballast, lots of variety. You can even get lighting that changes color... With LEDs, you could just run the wires under the cabinets, alongside the lights and you wouldn't even notice them. All you would then need to worry about is getting the wires from the right of the window across to the left of the window.
BTW, I love your kitchen!

Jenn--thank you for the videos. I will be sure to review them when I get home.
Lisa--I haven't looked into the light rails but you can adjust the lights as needed on one of those. Hmm. We could always add another fixture.
Shawn--Led lighting. Hmm I might have to check into it. I will have to check on the price as well. I'm about 10 seconds from throwing some cold cathodes under the cabinets and calling it a day. lol.

Re: How do we hide the wires in under cabinet lighting for the kitchen?
Well ours aren't "hidden" but you can't see them? The cabinets have a little lip? which goes below the bottom of the cabinets. So you can only see the wires if you look under the cabinets. Just looking at the you can;t see it.
