How do you decorate your outside for Christmas?

I am trying to get a head start because I am due with my daughter around Thanksgiving. I am debating a new blowup but am looking for ideas.

i LOVE the blowup characters!

i just bought a penguin last year.. its so cute!

then the usual lights along the roof.. and bushes.

we found candy canes at Michael's that are lights you can stick in your lawn that go along your driveway... its so cute!!

We usually just put lights around the bushes...window decorations to be seen from the outside and that's it.

Decorate the bushes with lights and a big wreath for the front door.

This is the first Christmas owning a home so it'll be the first time decorating outside. We'll probably keep it simple with white lights and maybe a wreath on the door. I'm not a fan of the blow ups.

I love the candy cane walkway lights too that Metsgirl posted about.

I'm still getting used to seeing christmas decorations on the palm trees in FL!

I have a huge bay window so I put my christmas tree in front of it and you can see it from outside. I leave it lit up...

We put a white candle/light in each window.

And a wreath on the door.

Nice and simple.

I haven't thought about decorating yet, since I don't know the exact layout of the front of the house....

I did have the contractor put an outlet in the front of the house connected to a switch inside. That way, I can turn any lights in the front of the house on and off from inside.

I alternate each each - one year Iput all white lights on the house, the next year I do color. Wreath on the door and usually "candle" lights (batteries) in the front windows.

You can also see one of my CHristmas trees in my solarium on the side of my house.

The big bulb colored lights all over the house, projected image on garage door, all shrubs and trees covered with multi-color little lights.

Some of those moving head reindeers, some toy soldiers, a santa, a wreath and our columns wrapped like a candy cane.

No blow-ups.

Last year was our first year. We tried to keep everything simple. I really love the way white lights look. So this is what I did:

White lights and Garland on the railing
2 white spiral trees on the lawn
1 white snowman on the lawn
And the candy cane lights along the walkway.

Then I decorated all the windows in the front of the house from the inside

This year I am going to add a wreath to the front door. I am trying to buy some stuff each year so it's not a huge expense all at once.

Spotlight on a wreath on my front door and candles in each window. My tree goes in my front bay window with white lights so you can see it from the street. Pretty simple over here.

We had a zillion white lights in our landscaping - but the jackass that owned the house before us did some kind of crazy thing w/ the outside electricity - so they kept going out !!! - WE FINALLY realized he had them on a timer set from the basement -

This year I think we're going to do one big wreath with a spotlight and maybe some garland w/ white lights/red bows-

We do white lights along the trees and bushes in the front of our house. I also have a set of 3 reindeer that light up and put garland around our front door with lights.

Same here. I think we'll stick with simple - white lights on the shrubs, maybe some electric candles in the windows (our house is very traditional looking so I think it would look good) and the wreath. It's going to be so much fun!

Oh, and of course, we'll use the icicle lights. Sorry - not trying to cause drama, but this was the first thing I thought of when I saw this post. Does anyone else remember that one?

I'm hoping to do multi-colored "ceramic" C-9s on a 25-30' evergreen we have in the front of the house. (I wish they still sold real ceramic C-9s instead of the plastic. It's just not the same. )


I may use some evergreen roping around our light posts with burgundy and/or gold bows.


I'm hoping my window flower boxes will be built by then too b/c I'd like to put fresh everygreens in there as well.
