How do you dress a newborn in summer?
I know I read that they should have an extra layer from what we are wearing.
I am due in late June and looking at PJ's, sleep sacks etc.
I'm wondering how covered up they need to be- I don't want her to be overheated if it's really hot out- but I thought newborns needed to be kept warmer. Do they need long sleeves in summer? I'm talking about mainly at night to sleep, etc. (I know you can't use blankets so I'd assume long sleeve PJ's or sleep sacks in cotton)
What about a coming home outfit?
I'm so confused.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: How do you dress a newborn in summer?
I would dress the baby in summer type clothes, but have a light blanket with me, just in case.

Re: How do you dress a newborn in summer?
Great question...I'm due mid-June and am also so confused on this. My mother and sisters helped me register and told me not to register for any short or long sleeve onsies in newborn size...they told me DC will not be wearing any undershirt in June-July-August. I do have those side snap ones for while their belly button thing is still going on...but other than that I registered for no newborn onsies. I did register for just 1 cotton sleepsack...they don't even think I'll use that. They think lightweight pj's will be enough....I have central air though. It's confusing...guess I'll just sort of wait and see...can always run out to pick up stuff if I don't have enough of what I need on hand.

I was told one layer more than what you wear.
We did a light going home outfit with a blanket.

Re: How do you dress a newborn in summer?
I plan on using those long sleeve cotton pajamas with the feet, maybe a hat for outside? all cotton though.

Re: How do you dress a newborn in summer?
I have central air, so I am planning on using cotton long sleeve footie pj's and a miracle blanket or sleep sack at night. Inside during the day he will wear either the same thing, or footless ones with socks. Outside, shorts and a short sleeve onsie, or a little jumper.

Well, now I am really confused. My mom told me the baby will need tons of onesies. In fact, onesies and sleepsacs are all I registered for!

Re: How do you dress a newborn in summer?
My son was born May 31. He wore onesies every day. At night, we either had AC on or windows open. He slept in a long sleeved shirt (the kind from the hospital) with his legs swaddled, or a 1 piece long sleeved & pants onesie.

I would think onesies would be good even in summer. If its super hot they can stay around the house in just the onesie and they can wear shorts or pants with the onesie too. It's just like a tee shirt no?

Sorry...I meant the plain white undershirt-style onesies. Yes to onesies that are printed - like a pj set or outfit. No to the white ones to wear UNDER the cute little cotton summer onesies...am I making sense?

Sorry again...I should have been more clear. Yes to a onesie-style pj or outfit. No to the plain white ones that are worn as undershirts...unless you want to keep them in just that. But no meaning they won't need undershirt onesies under their pj's/clothes in summer.
