How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
After hearing and reading a few articles i'm still not sure about that. I have a whole bunch from my shower and would like to use them. How do you feel about them?
If you do put them on for DC to watch.. how old were they when you started?

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
Good question- I want to know too. My 2.5 month old loves to stare at the TV. But he watches what I watch. I would like to delay the child take over of my TV as long as possible. We only have one.

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
I tried them when he was under 3 months and then again when he was a little older but he hated them all. I ended up selling them on ebay.

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
DD LOVES them...as in obsessed...watches them still at 18 months at least 2 times a day. She plays well with the tv off, outside, out, etc...her vocabulary is great. Some kids are into it, others hate it.
I don't think it delayed her in any way - she points things out and names them, tree, cat, baby, etc...all on the TV.

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
I didn't like them.... thought they were weird and I just don't like how babies seem to get sooooo transfixed by them. It sounds so silly typing that out, but on some level it bothered me. I sold mine.
What I DID like was the 3-dvd series from Classical Baby. I would put it on maybe once a week or so, and I liked how DS would clearly look at it and be interested, but not just STARING.

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
DD didn't watch them for more than 2 minutes as a baby.
I tried one more time when she was around 20 months old, she's hooked. She's learned her shapes, counted to 5 (she now counts to 15 at 2), numbers, about the sky, everything that has water. She points out things IRl that she learned on BE, even recognizes classical music from it.
I was just about to sell them when she started liking them.
That's just about the only tv she watches except super why on PBS.
My DD didnt' watch any tv though until then, i dont' believe in TV for kids DEF under 1. I waited as long as possible for her to get hooked.

DD loves them and she has learned soooo much through watching them. She can sign and learned so many animals early on.

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
DS doesn't like them. We never bought any, just took them out of the library. He isn't big on tv in general, but he likes these less than some shows like Sesame Street.
Personally, I didn't think they were that well done, and they seemed strange. Their educational claims are also unproven, and I doubt they really make kids geniuses. If a baby likes watching them for entertainment, that's fine, but I sincerely doubt they do anything for one's intellect.

My son loved them from 3 months until about 9 months. I haven't put one on since we got back vaca so it's prob my fault.
I loved it - it gave me time to drink my coffee in the am!

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
DS was just watching the early sounds one this morning. I peeked in to see if he was watching and he was clearly interested! Not transfixed, because he would start to play with the toy in his hand and then he would hear something that made him look up. We also play the Classical Baby, which he seems to like as well.
He's 7 months old.

I won't be using these. It's wierd how babies seem almost hypnotized by them. I dont' really want DC watching TV at all the first 6 months to one year anway.

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
Megan LOVED them!
She started watching them at about 3 months and only recently doesnt care about them anymore.
She still loves the sign language one..she knows how to sign a lot actually.
I see nothing wrong with using them a couple of times a day in order to get something done.

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
I just started putting them on during dd's cranky time. It seems to help. It distracts her but doesn't hypnotize her. She's 3 1/2 months.

I agree; they recommend no TV/visual media for children under 2. I am sure she gets too many unintentional snipits of TV here and there and I don't want to compound it.

Re: How do you feel about Baby Einstein DVDs
DD watched them every now and then when she was probably around 3 or 4 months old until maybe a year? I can't remember but there were 2 or 3 she liked... I see no harm no foul in anything in moderation...
