Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

I don't think I could ever BF someone else's child and as for my own child, i'd rather give him formula than another womans breastmilk, but thats just me.

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

I don't think I would ever want my DS to consume someone else's BM for a number of reasons...

I do not have an opinion one way or another. Would I PERSONALLY do it? No but I WOULD pump for someone elses baby if they needed it Chat Icon

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

nope not for me. this whole segment on the news weirded me out. i didnt know people were even thinking about doing this. i could see a milk bank but to actually let my child latch onto another boob...no thank you.

This strange. I had trouble in the beginning with DD and I often wished I could nurse another baby just to see how it felt and then maybe DD would latch easier. She eventually did get the hang of it (almost 18 months later we are still at it) but I do remember having the desire to nurse other babies.

Sometimes I still have an urge to nurse a small baby is they are getting a bottle of formula nearby. I must be a freakChat Icon

I don't think you are a freak at all!Chat Icon It's a very natural experience and there's nothing wrong with the fact that had/have the desire to nurse babies.

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

I was unable to BF and it was devastating for me. All 3 of my children are happy and HEALTHY formula-fed babies. It would BEYOND break my heart to have "someone else" be able to nurse my child when I could not.

I would do it for my niece (my sister's child) If something happened to my sister and she was unable to nurse her I would absolutely do it.

My Mother had to have an emergency surgery when she was BF my sister and my aunt stepped in and nursed my sister while my Mom was in the hospital.

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

I know wet nurses were the norm years ago, but personally I do not know how I feel about cross nursing. I would pump and donate though.

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

To each their own, but sooooooo NOT for me and my own...you don't know what another woman is consuming when you are not around and what diseases they are exposed to...I just read an article the other day, that in a recent study it was shown that a type of HPV virus can be transmitted to a child through breastmilk...most women don't even know if they have HPV...no ones putting their boobie in my childs mouth except for me....

I would never do it. It was done a long time ago before the days of formula...we are 100% ok with formula here!

Same here!!

I would rather give my child formula than someone else's BM. It just doesn't seem sanitary!!

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

I would 100% pump for someone and/or donate it.

I would NOT BF someone elses baby.

After thinking more about this...

ETA - Unless it was in an absolute emergeny situation I would do both.

I had read a few articles about women BFing other children in emergency situations, like during Katrina, etc. I would 100% BF other children and if need be have someone BF my child if i was in that type of situation.

Where life or death is a factor, I would do whatever I could to help and/or be helped.

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

My aunt nursed me a few times when I was a baby - but this was 1977. I don't think would be comfortable with this idea now.

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

Dh and I joked about having his sister nurse DS when I was having problems BF. We really wanted to BF but just couldn't continue to do it.

DS is now on formula, but I think if SIL had a great supply and was willing to pump for us, and DS needed BM for medical reasons, I would absolutely take her milk. I trust her enough.

My heart woukd break at the thought of her actually nursing my child though. That I could not deal with, already knowing the bonding I was missing by not being able to continue to BF myself.

The thought of my DD latching onto someone else REALLY REALLYbothers me, sister, relative, whomever. However, I would absolutely donate my BM to a bank.

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

there was a huge article about it in baby talk this month. i personally would not do it. but am donating over 400 oz to a milk bank. i would prefer to give it to someone i know instead of an unknown. ive been tested and gone through the process - waiting for a dna profile so they can match the milk.

Re: How do you feel about Cross Nursing?

Breastfeeding, for me, was more about bonding with my child & ease of feeding. So in its traditional sense, cross nursing isn't something I'd offer up.

While I'd say it's not for me (and at this stage of my life, it's a moot point), if it was medically necessary for a baby or a catastrophic event...yes I would.

Did anyone read about the woman in China who nursed 9 babies?
