How do you get through it?! Runners?!?
How do you get through miles past 15?!? That seems to be my breaking point- boredom sets in, It starts getting tedious, it gets harder. How do you do it? Especially when running alone? How do you keep yourself motivated? I find that I start having trouble keeping my pace, my momentum. It really starts to get hard. And to think to finish a marathon I have to go 11 miles past that is crazy to me. How do you survive? How do you get yourself through it?

The legs take over. The mind quiets down. And you just do it.
Sorry that I can't explain better. That's all there really is for me

How do you get through it?! Runners?!?
I've run 15+ miles on three occasions, so my experience is limited.
What got me through it was that I started to notice my surroundings more. It became a more visual experience and my brain quieted down a bit.
What comes to mind as a suggestion is: how about switching to a really happy, peppy play list?

For me it was music and people watching as I run through the streets. During the actual race I never used music, the energy from the crowds (in NYC) was enough!

During the race the crowd and excitement will get you through. Or you can always strike up a conversation with someone next to you.
During training I usually ran with my DH, but we would play games like I'm going on a picnic just to keep our minds occupied. I'm sure you could play by yourself.
Training is far, far harder than race day, imo. If you can get through the training runs you can get through anything!

I agree. If I can't shut my mind down and stop thinking about pace, distance or other things, then I can't go further. I need to be in a zone.

Re: How do you get through it?! Runners?!?
It's different during the race. Long Training runs suck! I like to do mine at Sunken Meadow with lots if change if scenery... Run road into park, do some trails, roads inside park, boardwalk, more trails, roads back out of park. Finding a group to run with helps also (but as a mom did most of mine alone around my kids schedules) or if you can have a friend join you for the last 6 of a long run, that makes it better.
