How do you get your DC's to drink water...
The doctor said I could start giving him a little bit of water. But Matthew won't take it. He flips out when he tastes that it's water. Could it be the size of the nipple? He uses size 3 Avent when he takes his milk. Maybe with the water it goes down much faster with the size 3. I don't want to switch sizes every time I give him milk and water cuz then he'll be confused.
Should I wait another few months? He is 5 1/2 months right now.

Re: How do you get your DC's to drink water...
Start introducing the sippy cup. Put only water in the sippy for now to avoid confusion. You may have to go through several cups to find one he likes so might as well start now. I must've tried at least 6 different types of sippys and he ended up finally going with the first one we tried
Better yet, you can even try a regular cup. It'll be messy, and yes, he'll need alot of help, but baby steps.

I give it to her ice cold from a regular cup. Obviously I hold it and pour it into her mouth, but she LOVES it like this.

Well he's not even holding his own bottle yet so I don't know if he'll drink out of a sippy cup.
My nephew was the same way and the only way he eventually would take some water was through a regular glass. They held it for him of course. They tried so many ways to get him to drink the water.

You have to hold the sippy cup for him.

Are you still having problems getting him to drink full bottles of formula?

It's touch and go with that one. He started drinking full bottles again and now he's stopping again. I don't know if you read my other post but I see a tooth starting to break in. It looks like a little needle point right now. So maybe this is all tied in to the teething?

Re: How do you get your DC's to drink water...
DS loves drinking cold water from a water bottle. Everytime we go to the mall I get a sports water bottle we have to squeeze it into his mouth and he will drink it. He will also drink from a cup but I hold it and it does get messy but it is cute and he enjoys it. The sippy cup, he can sip from him but he plays with it more but I dont mind because I want him to get use to it. If I take out the stopper (to make the flow slower) then he looks for it more.

I got the Nuby sippy cup with handles for Lauren. I give her water in that. Shje is starting to figure out how to use it, but I hold it for her most of the time.

My doctor told me last week - that if she is still not finishing her bottles - that she isn't going to want the water. But that was just my doctor...

I have this little green plastic cup. Can I try it on that?
Is 5 1/2 months too young still? Should I wait another month or two?

I give DS water in the small Avent bottles with a size 2 nipple (He uses a 3 with milk) He takes it pretty well that way.

Do you think this could all be related to the fact that he's teething.
Either that or he's getting too much solids? I don't think so though. He has 3 tbsp of cereal and 2 of fruit. In the afternoon he has 2 tbsp on fruit. In the evening he has the same as in the morning...

Not wanting to suck on a bottle can definitely be related to teething.

He sucks on it when there is milk. Until he gets fussy that is...

Re: How do you get your DC's to drink water...
I tried every possible way and he still refuses to take it. He starts crying immediately.
I don't know what else to try. I want him to have some liquid after he has his solids. I give him milk but I give it to him before the solids because with the other way he won't want to finish his bottle.
Maybe that's the problem. That he's so use to milk? He has his milk warm so maybe the water (which is given at room temperature) sets him off. But he has to get used to a little coldness.
He's taken his bottle at room temperature. Like 2 weeks ago when we to the outlets in Lancaster we fed him on the go and I never heated up the bottles.

Re: How do you get your DC's to drink water...
You have to give it more than a day or two for him to get used to the idea. How long have you been trying the cup for? If you tried water in the bottle for awhile and it didn't work, move on to the cup. Try a take and toss cup for a week or so. If he refuses that, move on to the various sippy cups. I also recommend taking the spout out of the cup in the beginning.
Like I said, it can take a while for them to get the hang of the cup. Good luck!

Re: How do you get your DC's to drink water...
I tried a dr. brown bottle with a smaller size nipple. That didn't work.
He takes his milk from an avent bottle with a size 3 nipple. My next option is to try a size 1 or 2 nipple. It doesn't look like he takes much but yet I hear the water jiggling in his stomach.
The only way I got some in his mouth was with a baby spoon. When I try the bottle he flips out he cries hysterically.

Well I give him milk before solids. Otherwise he won't finish a bottle. Please i'm lucky that he finishes a bottle at all. He's been so fussy. I cross my fingers at every bottle feeding.
So is it ok to do bottle then solids?

What ever works for you - works for you. Every baby is different.
I have given you Ali's schedule before as other girls have - we each have a different schedule.
Ali has her bottle between 7-8 Then about 10 - 10:30 - she gets cereal, veggies and fruit Then about 12:30-1:30 she wants a bottle Then about 4:00-4:30 she wants another bottle About 6:30 she has cereal, veggies and fruits Then about 7:30-8:30 she has her last bottle of the day - goes to bed and then we have about the same schedule the next day

Maybe the problem is that I do everything at once? I do the solids right after a bottle. What I do in the morning is give him a 4 oz bottle then the other 2 ounces I put in his cereal and then give him fruit. Maybe he's too full to have water?
But then again I think i've waited about an hour later before trying again and he just refused! He starts flipping out the minute he tastes the water.
