Maybe the problem is that I do everything at once? I do the solids right after a bottle. What I do in the morning is give him a 4 oz bottle then the other 2 ounces I put in his cereal and then give him fruit. Maybe he's too full to have water?

But then again I think i've waited about an hour later before trying again and he just refused! He starts flipping out the minute he tastes the water.

I know nothing about the water - my doctor told me not to give it to Ali
so I can't help you with that.

About when to give cereal and fruits or what have you - you have to figure out the best that works for you DS. You know best - not any of us.

I wonder if I should try pedialyte first?

Why would you give him pedialyte?
Did you doctor say he is not getting enough nutrition? If he is eating regularly - he is fine.

But then again - if you have ALL of these questions, write them down and call the doctor and discuss it with him/her.

I think if your doctor is leaving you up in the air about your questions and you are still unsure - you may need to switch pediatricians.
When I walk out of my pediatrician office - I feel fine with what my doctors tell me - do you feel that way?

why are you so concered with giving him water? It's not like he NEEDS it now anyway. Maybe he doesn't want it or doesn't like it. It's not really that big of a deal.
And isn't pedialyte for when they are dehydrated?

True...I was just wondering that's all.

Maybe what I can do now is give him a little bit of water off the spoon I feed him from. Maybe he'll get used to it that way. The crazy thing is that even though he doesn't drink much of it that it still jiggles in his stomach. I hear it when I pick him. So I then pat his back and he'll burp.

Don't get all obsessed with the water...they don't NEED it at this time. Kerri has NEVER had water.

When DC start solids the formula intake goes down so don't push it or you will just make him sick

He's on Solids already. That's why I want to give him some water after the meals.

But why...his meals have enough liquid in them...It is not like when we eat a steak and potato and would like a drink after

You don't need to "wash it all down"

What would the water be for?
Why don't you just give him a bottle?
I am getting confused on why you want to give him water - sorry if I am not understanding

Becaucse I give him the bottle before the solids. The water would be so that he has something to wash down the solids with. He won't finish a bottle if he has solids first. I'm lucky he finishes a bottle at all right now.

You should give him the bottle after solids and don't worry if he finishes it or not....his tummy is getting full from solids so he doesn't need as much liquid

this just doesn't make sense to meChat Icon Chat Icon do not take everything your ped says as bible. I love my dr, but every single child is different and if it's working for my child than that's all that matters. Why would you forcefeed your son water if he is eating solids and drinking bottles. and unless your child is sick or has diarrhea is there a reason to inroduce pedialyte????

Bella never had water until much later, I introduced it with the sippy-cup.
Didn't Matthew just have a dr appontment where he gained weight?

Re: How do you get your DC's to drink water...

babies don't need anything to wash the solids down with so i wouldn't worry too much about him having water. it seems like pediatricians have varying opinions on giving water anyway. some say to give it and others say not to give it at all. if you're worried about him not having enough formula i probably would try NOT to give him water. if his belly is full of water, he'll be less likely to drink the formula which is what he needs to get all of his nutrients. why are you worried about him finishing his bottles? how many oz. is he drinking a day? when babies start eating solids the amount of formula they drink will start to decrease. back to the water...after i started giving brendan formula and he was eating a lot of solids he started having difficulty with constipation so my ped recommended i try to give him 4 oz of water a day. brendan also didn't like to drink the water so i have to mix some pear juice in it. i usually give him 3oz of water mixed with 1 oz of pear juice. that's the only way he'll drink it.

Re: How do you get your DC's to drink water...

I think i'll wait a little bit more before giving him water again. The ped had said I can give him a little bit of water but he doens't know that he's not wanting. I haven't brought it up to the doctor.

I'll give it a little bit more time and see what happens then...
