how do you handle stress?

I have a very stressful job with long hours, lots of travel, and a LIRR commute. Now that the end of my first trimester is in sight and this whole thing is starting to feel real, I'm worrying about my stress level.

I'm a worrier by nature, and have been told by a few docs that my heart rate is abnormally high due to stress. Between job expectations and the whole growing a baby thing, I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed. The whole working mom thing scares me, but what I'm most concerned about right now is how to manage the next seven or so months.

Just hoping to get some advice from girls who may be in a similar situation.

Thanks so much!

First off, take a deep breath and now that everything will be okay.

It's okay to worry-we all do but don't forget to take time out for yourself on weekends (whether it's a spa, getting a mani/pedi, reading a nice book).

I am in a similar situation to you, stressful job, LIRR commute to Manhattan and a 50 plus hour work week. I am currently 31 weeks and keeping the same schedule. To top it off I had to fire someone today Chat Icon Try not to get too overwhelmed and keep your eye on the prize. Make sure you take time for you on the weekends and lots of deep sighs and you will some how come through it. If the stress gets too bad talk to your Dr he may have to sign you out of work. Sending you hugs Chat Icon

Re: how do you handle stress?

I was just debating this same thing today. I work on Wall st. and am the first pregnant woman on my floor of 200 in 5-8 years. Most women here don't have kids.

I'm also 31 weeks, work 7.30am to at least 5pm. I am actually going to take a sick day tomorrow- the first of my pregnancy to relax. I had a sono yesterday and the baby is SO low it alarmed me. I need to take it easy....more than anything I want him to be full term.

I would say monitor yourself and if you feel it gets to be too much try to work from home. I already suggested it and the response wasn't favorable...I will probably escalate my request to ensure I get it. Hopefully you have the option to work from home. Saving on the commute alone should help ease your stress levels.

GOOD LUCK!
