How do you know if DC has acid reflux?
He is 6.5 weeks old. Feeding has been going well, but it seems he is spitting up more. I try to give him 15-20 mins after each feeding before I change him, but once I get him on the table, it becomes large volume spit up(s).
Is this normal? Or, is this a sign of acid reflux?
Formula has not changed, but we did recently up him to 5oz every 4 hours after feeling as though he was getting hungrier in btwn feedings.
Also, he tends o whine/cry more when we burp him. Is this just impatience or is it b/c he is uncomfortable?
All questions to ask a ped, but figuerd I'd come here first.
Thanks!

He might be whining because he's still hungry and wants more.
Doesn't sound like reflux, but i'm not sure. Are there any other signs? Throwing head back? Crying while eating? Waking shortly after eating? will only sleep if inclined?

i change Sasha before feeding her-- sometimes she wails cause she is hungry but it works better cause she falls asleep after feeding, and then i can just put her down or she sleeps on me . During the times i change after feeding-- she usually spits up and changings get real messy.

Re: How do you know if DC has acid reflux?
the signs my dd were displaying were crying mid feeding, she would stop nursing, pull away scream, and then latch back on..same with if i supplemented with a bottle..she was very cranky an hour before a feeding..she spit up alil more than usual..(this all started aruond 5 weeks..) and the big one for me was that she would have a gag reflex ALL THE TIME..like she wouldnt be drinking anything and just gag out of nowhere..it was obvious she was uncomfortable..she was put on axid and has been MUCH better

Re: How do you know if DC has acid reflux?
DS always spits up when I change him after a feeding. When I burp him, I hear the liquid coming up. DS will spit up an hour after a feeding. He has reflux, but is more of a happy spitter. He spits up a lot and it has become more forceful, but it doesn't seem to really bother him. The dr. and I had talked about putting him on Zantac, but I decided to hold off b/c he started getting a little better.
A lot of babies have reflux b/c their digestive systems haven't matured, but as long as your baby seems happy and not bothered by spitting up, there probably isn't much of a reason to be concerned. Definitely talk to your dr. about your concerns though.
