How Do you make a 13-month old eat??
I am sooo frustrated. I know it's so common, but it's driving me nuts. DD eats yogurt and any bread around, or cereal-- she's a carb addict.
How the heck do I get her to eat??? Seriously, last night, I gave her some pasta, which she eats normally, and she wanted a bite before throwing it on the floor. She wanted nothing else I gave her.
Forget a fresh fruit or veggie-- doesn't even put them in her mouth, throws them immediately. I try cramming one in there for the taste-- spits it out like I'm poisoning her.
I'm losing my mind...how do I get her to eat?

Re: How Do you make a 13-month old eat??
I have similiar issues with my 14 month old. Sometimes he will eat so much (including veggies) and then there are days he will knaw on a bagel all day long.
I "try" not to get frustrated since they pick up on that. I also consistenly attempt to feed him and HOPE he eats.
The dr and my books say that toddlers are finicky but will eat when they are hungry. I make sure he has his liquids and vitamins and hope for the best.

Re: How Do you make a 13-month old eat??
same with hannah at that age......
honestly, i waited, and still do, wait til shes HUNGRY...almost ravenous, and then shell eat anything...
this usually means waiting ALMOST 2 HOURS after she gets up in the morning...
its all trial and error- i grew to know that she wasnt that hungry for a couple hours...anytime i would feed her before that, she would be picky and only have a couple bites....
my dr always said the same thing- they arent going to starve- they will eat when the are hungry......
thats my best advice- now, hannah eats everything!!! i can give her a plate of broccoli and chicken and shell scarf it up...but if she isnt hungry, shell tell me she doesnt want it and doesnt like it....

Re: How Do you make a 13-month old eat??
my ped told me NOT to stress the issue. As long as she is eating something during the day, it is fine
they will eat when they are hungry...the more you try to get her to eat, the more she will resist
If mikayla is not eating or saying "down" over and over, I take that as my sign that she is not hungry and I take her out of the high chair
my ped said it is VERY common between 12-18 months for kids to not want to eat as much as usual

you Dont...Its a phase, Noah has them anywhere from 2 weeks to only 2 days and then eats...but even if its longer..they wont starve to death. I try to remind myself that, because I do find myself saying, come on , just a bit more, but if they dont want, its OK....They will be ok...just end the meal and try again later.

Re: How Do you make a 13-month old eat??
I agree with what everyone above said....it's frustrating but you have to not let it get to you.
Lucas is a great eater - will put fistfuls into his mouth - but even he goes through these phases where he wants nothing. So I learned to let it go...he'll eat when he's hungry - and it's true! It was hard to deal with at first but now I let it go...and we're both happier through it. Most important is that they stay hydrated...the rest is up to them.
