how do you remove paint from
real wood that has been stained dark?????
Part of the staircase has been painted white and it is covering this dark stained (not painted) wood and I would like to restore it to its natural dark wood.

This is a very painful process. We stripped all the wood in one of our rooms. We used a paint stripper that smelt horrible and burned! It worked the best though. After you strip you need to sand the wood.
ETA: We had the same problem on our stairs. When we had our floors done they did them. They came out beautiful.

I just bought some stuff called Ready Strip. I saw it on an infomercial but I bought it in my local paint store. Its odorless and you paint it on and leave it, for anywhere from 4-24 hours and then scrape it off. We have metal radiator covers that are built into the wall and are peeling and had about 80 coats of paint on them. So far so good, we did 2 already and it was not bad getting it off.
