How do you remove paint from brick?
The previous owner had the brick surround to the fireplace painted white. DH and I are getting a new mantel surround and would like to strip the paint from the brick so it would show through just a bit near the surround.
How do we get the paint off? I think we need a heat gun but DH thinks a wire brush is enough. Anyone ever do something like this?

Re: How do you remove paint from brick?
Our fireplace has the same thing. We wanted it back to its original just the red weathered brick but we were told we needed a sand blaster and that is it extremely messy and not worth it. Our neighbor did it and only did a small piece b/c of the mess. GL!

I just did some paint stripping to my house and what a mess. Some people do that to their fireplaces too. I would get a professional - it is soooooooooooooooooooo messy.
