Re: How do you split holidays??

Most of the time my family and DH family will be together so it is no big deal. Always big celebration for us.

Painfully Chat Icon

Thanksgiving is easy - we alternate years between my dad and my IL's.

Christmas Eve/Christmas Day is always a nightmare. Christmas Eve is my b/day and it's a huge feast at the IL's house (being Italian)....just once I'd like to do something different for my b/day.

Plus my parent's are divorced so I have to try to fit my mother in there which is usually Christmas Day morning. We have a very strained relationship so my efforts are rather lame.

Re: How do you split holidays??

Thanksgiving - Usually both (this year maybe just his family)

Christmas Eve - his family

Christmas Day - my family

Good Friday - his family

Palm Sunday - my family

Easter - my family

Mothers Day - we usually go to his family the day before and the day of my family - I cook a big dinner for my sisters and my mom

Fathers Day - his family (mine is deceased)

The best part..both families are very Italian so we NEVER miss out on the traditional food!!!

Oh how I wish this were true!! The food is ALWAYS better at my Mom's!

We alternate each holiday...switching each year.

When we go to my family, it's huge, usually 25 people at least and it is at my mothers house.

When we have aholiday with his family, it is usually me, DH, MIL, FIL & BIL & sometimes his aunt, uncle & 2 cousins.
For the most part though, it is only 6 of us & I cook since we are married.

Chat Icon This is one debate we ALWAYS have.

I'm at the point where I am ready to say you go see your family and I'll go see mine.

But EVERYONE wants to see Chat Icon So that is an issue in itself.

Usually, we do Thanksgiving with DH's fam, Christmas Eve brunch w/his fam and dinner with mine, and Christmas day with mine. The last few years his fam has come to my parent's for Christmas day.

Thanksgiving changes from year to year
Every year Christmas eve with my mom early. DH's parents later on.
Christmas day my IL's early for opening gifts and then my sister house later.

Re: How do you split holidays??

Thanksgiving and Easter we try to have everyone over our house, or my mother or mil invites the other side of parents over. This is not ideal but it works for me. My brother is in Florida so my dad's sisters are the only ones that live on LI. Sometimes we go there, where we will sometimes split the day or even do a breakfast thing with inlaws.

Christmas Eve is usually at my mom's, only the immediate family. DH's sister usually does Christmas Breakfast, and then we go to my family the rest of the day and come back for a 6 o'clock dinner at inlaws.

My parents are doing every other Christmas in FLorida now, so it will be easier but I will still hate it.

This year we might wait to celebrate Christmas with inlaws since BIL is coming up on the 29th from Charlotte.
