I recently bought clear shoe boxes from the container store, they are amazing, they have different sizes too, I stack them in my closet, they fit into each other neatly and put some under my dresser (where you cant see)
I just got that and I love it!!!

I have a walk in closet so I have shoe boxes lining the walls inside it, there are 2 different shoes in each box both for my right foot, then I put both left shoes on top of the box this way i can see everything I have
