He smells like a cute little bear who loves honey??
lol- that's what I thought of too
There was a kid in my class in HS who smelled- he bathed in cologne- but you could still smell the BO. Someone would leave a can of deoderant on his desk once a week before class started.
I felt bad for him- but was grateful for the anonymous deoderant donor.

Honestly I would FIRST find out if he's not ill.... there are alot of people that have colostomy bags and I've heard that they STINK!!!! there is some kind of carbon in them that can defuse the order but it very well could be a health situation..
IF it's not then the boss needs to address it..does this man go into court smelling like that? Your bosses haven't gotten a whiff???
We had a woman like that years ago in the office and someone left a deodorant stick on her desk when she was out to lunch!
He called in sick on his second or third day, saying he was having a "gastronomical problem."
omg, a GASTRONOMICAL PROBLEM!!!
I think I just pi$$ed myself from laughing...

You don't take situations like these into your own hands. Talk to HR and let them handle it.
I agree...I had to do this a while ago. It really works!

Re: How Do You Tell Someone They Smell?
I totally feel for you. Uggh, but as a RN I have to point out it could be an underlying medical problem...uncontrolled diabetes, vasculitis, hormonal, colostomy, illeostomy etc. You never know what is going on with someone. I would let whomever might be handeling it know and approach it DELICATELY. If it is medical i.e. not his "fault" this could be something that is very sensitive. Just wanted to point that out. Hope it all works out.

Re: How Do You Tell Someone They Smell?
It happened in an old job. We told our manager who talked to the "stinkypooh" man's manager.
His cologne was nauseating.

Ask him to check his shoes for dog-doo.
Nah, seriously, I'd bring it up to HR and have them deal with it.

Re: How Do You Tell Someone They Smell?
I had a woman that worked with us that STUNK like no other, the thought of going near her made you gag-general manager told her that there were complaints from employees and customers about her hygiene. She quit shortly after. We all felt bad but I dont think there is really an easy way to let someone know

Re: How Do You Tell Someone They Smell?
We have a fellow nurse that smells horribly. She has rotted teeth that smell so bad she does not even have to open her mouth, her hair smells even worse, she doesn't wash it or herself. Patients have complained as well as staff, nothing has changed. I made a complaint the other day and still nothing.
I am gonna go with the bunny idea....lol
love it :)

Re: How Do You Tell Someone They Smell?
there used to be a great website that i guess got shut down or something b/c it no longer comes up --- gentlehints.com or something like that. i'm sure if you do a search other sites like this have to exist.
basically - the website generated anonymous letters or emails to a person - all you had to do was pay a small fee and select what was wrong (offensive breath, body odor, foul language user, etc) - and it would send them a very mature and polite letter basically saying that someone who cares is concerned and offers them tips on how to help the situation depending on what it is (purchasing a tongue scraper for bad breath along with brushing and flossing twice daily or just telling them to shower and use a speed stick for the body odor).
anywho - you could try searching and seeing if you could do that - the letter or email is COMPLETELY anonymous. either that or just speak to your office manager - someone needs to do something about it and it should be a person in a position of authority.
we have a person at our office who has body odor - i've, personally, never smelled a person who stinks of "pooh" like you described only stock body odor which is awful. our managers sat down with the person and told them that they need to take care of it as it was offensive and distracting to others.

Re: How Do You Tell Someone They Smell?
oh boy I had to do this when I was the manager of a retail store. I hired this guy- no problem, then all of a sudden he started coming in stinking really bad. Not only did the co workers complain, now I had customers complain of the stench. I had to sit him down in the office and very delicately speak to him about it. I remember starting out by saying is everything ok with you? after us talking turned out he got evicted, was living on his friends couch then got kicked out of there and living in his car- no shower- so he smelled. I explained to him how he needed to clean up- next day came in showered, shaved and clean clothes.
it is a very touchy subject and sensitive issue.
frankly if you dont have any HR and you want to stay anonymous- put a bag on his desk and inside put some deodarant and baby powder in it.

Re: How Do You Tell Someone They Smell?
At one of my old jobs, when someone complained about another person's odor (I guess it happened frequently) HR had a "hygiene basket". It contained soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, deoderant, etc). You could leave a basket on his desk while he is out.....
