I know what you mean! I'm thankful to be off from work this week so I can catch up. I know as soon as work starts again though, the house will be a wreck

Re: How does everyone keep up!
I definitely can't keep up. Plus with the new baby, DH is lucky we are at my parents house b/c that is the only reason why he gets a cooked meal every night.....my dad makes it. I can barely get the energy to take a shower and make the bed. If this baby doesn't let me get some sleep in the next few months, I am not only going to stay out on leave from work, but will also need to get some hired help!

I feel the exact same way! I am always telling my mom that I am a failure because I can't handle doing everything now with an apartment and no kids - I have no idea what I am going to do when I have a house and kids

I keep thinking the same thing when I look at houses
I think I am going to need help- we used to have a cleaning lady once a week- but I decided to cut back when we moved- b/c the only one I could find wanted $80 a week! and I couldn't justify it
and then with the house- comes a dog and then comes kids

Re: How does everyone keep up!
I hardly ever cook. And I powerclean one day during the week no matter how tired I am (usually Thursday), I can't be bothered with cleaning and such on a weekend. I do however change the sheets every Sunday night, it's like my end of weekend ritual.

Re: How does everyone keep up!
I can't keep up during the week, I usually take Saturday or Sunday morning and do a powerclean and laundry session. Otherwise, we wouldn't eat dinner all week or we'd be eating burgers cuz DH certainly doesn't cook.

I agree! I give so much credit to parents who work full time. I feel like the energizer bunny monday-friday!

Re: How does everyone keep up!
I don't keep up! I'm too tired when I come home from work. Cleaning gets done when I'm "inspired" otherwise, I do mostly tidying. DH helps a lot with cooking and cleaning (well, sometimes it's a lot more than help - more like I help him).

I hear ya! I can't imagine what life is going to be like when I have a house and kids. We can barely maintain our 1-bedroom apartment, and DH is lucky if I cook some sort of dinner 3 nights per week!

Re: How does everyone keep up!
It's hard. I have the house, kids, dog, husband and fulltime job.
I clean and do laundry on the weekends.
I cook maybe 4-5 days a week. The rest we get pizza and takeout. Right now with the no sink, we have had alot of takeout because cleaning is a big pain.
The kids get baths and showers at night. My dh gives our son a bath while I clean the dishes or do something else that needs to get done.
We run around alot alone while one watches the kids to get things done.
It's hard but most everything gets done and we are always using lists and crossing things off to keep organized.

Re: How does everyone keep up!
I can't say I'm all that good at keeping up with it but I try. A few things that work for me are:
Toss a load of laundry in when I get home at night so it's never piling up.
Keep Clorox wipes and other cleaning stuff under the sink upstairs, to make quick touch-ups of the bathroom easy.
Windex Glass Wipes - LOVE THEM for wiping the mirrors quickly.
Swiffer Sweeper and Duster both short and long arm. Great for quick touches - 5 - 15 minutes here and there help keep things in good shape
NEVER let dishes pile up in the sink - clean up right after dinner, wipe all counters
Watch for your Hot Spots - where does stuff pile up - the kitchen island, dining room table, floor next to your favorite chair? Make a pledge to pick up stray items from that spot every night and keep it clean - it will make you feel much better about how things look.
Utilize the small moments - I find that I'm getting better and better about using 5 - 15 minute blocks to do small cleaning chores and it helps with keeping things in order - got 5 minutes while something is in the oven - then clean one shelf in the fridge - toss old stuff and wipe clean. Have a few minutes in the morning while the coffee is brewing - then organize your tupperware drawer and toss stray lids or tubs. You get the idea here - if you get in the habit of doing small bits of maintenance it becomes a lot easier to keep things in shape overall.

(luckily my husband could care less)
but latley I just feel like I have no time!
when you do cook, make enough for 2 nights, or at least for lunch the next day
do one chore every hour you're home after work (say from 7-9, you vacuum one room one hour, and do the dishes the next hour) - do that everyday during the week, and by the time the weekend rolls around, it's all done

This is a good idea. I'm not the best at keep up but I make sure I clean the kitchen every night after dinner and straighten up the mess DH makes every night.
