I flew out of LGA a few weeks ago, got there 1hr 45min early. We were waiting for 1 hr.
On the return trip we got there a little over 1 hr early. They took my lip gloss that I forgot I put in my bag. We waited 30 min.
It depends where your flying out of too.
I say 1&1/2 hr's early gives you enough time.
Def. check in on line too! Saves time at the gate!

it's a crap shoot- you never know how long the security line is going to be- so I say 2 hours.
