As soon as you get a sonogram, 6-8 weeks

Re: How early can they detect twins?
With my last pregnancy, which was twins, they detected two yolk sacs at the first sonogram (5 weeks, I think).
I don't know how hard/easy it is to miss though.

Re: How early can they detect twins?
sometimes if the 2 sacs are on top of one another, it can be missed at an early sono. Think about the internal probe thing - if sacB is just above (towards your ribs) sacA, you won't see sacB because sacA is blocking it!

Re: How early can they detect twins?
I found out at 6 weeks.
I know somebody who found out at 6 weeks she was having twins, and then was shocked at 10 weeks when it was triplets!

Re: How early can they detect twins?
Just curious for those of you that found out early on that you were having twins was there any reason to suspect it?, e.g. fertility txt, high hcg level... It seems that you all found out at early sonos just wondering why they were done that early.

Re: How early can they detect twins?
At the first sono - 6-8 weeks? somewhere around there - and the Dr. almost missed the second sac - as he was taking the probe out - thats when he spotted it.
So it is possilbe to miss one.

I did IVF, that's why I had one so early. I had sonos every week from 5 weeks to 10 weeks.

_______________________________ I believed in the high HCG but I do not anymore In September I was pregnant with twins my beta at 14days was 310, two days late it was798 i found ou at 6weeks
I am now pregnant again I had my beta 14 days again 322, two days later 810, then 4 days later it was 5846
crazy
I went for my sono, my RE was shocked that it was only one, he looked everywhere. I am just so glad I have one== fertility treatments suck.............

I'm only having one, but I've had ultrasounds at all my appointments - even my very first one where we couldn't see anything (had blood drawn that day and two days later to confirm rising hcg levels). My doctor's office has the machines in each exam room and seems to like to use them regularly to take a look and see what's going on in there, which I love because it's nice to see everything's ok.
My friend with twins was told at her first u/s, by an idiot technician, that she was either having 3 or had a blighted ovum (aka miscarriage) - can you imagine? She in fact only had two - the next u/s confirmed but sometimes it's hard to see and sometimes the person doing the looking is a little incompetent.

Re: How early can they detect twins?
Sometimes the beta results are quite high which is a very early indicator....but does not always mean twins.
They saw two sacs for me at 5 weeks...I was in shock

Re: How early can they detect twins?
Our RE had an inkling when I took my first couple of betas & they were astronomically high. Then at 5w, I had a sono & saw the 2 sacs.
